© The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2017. The Arabian Gulf environment has an adverse impact on concrete structures because of the high ambient temperature, humidity, salt contaminated dust, sea water and underground salts. As an innovative solution, reinforced modified sulfur concrete (MSC) pipes are recognized as a durable and economical solution for deterioration of pipelines. This work describes the manufacture and characterization of new MSC based on a cost effective sulfur modification process. Bitumen, a by-product from crude oil refining process was used to modify elemental sulfur and enhance its physical, mechanical properties, and mostly to increase its corrosive …
Electrophysiological And Morphological Characterization Of Neurons In The Granular Retrosplenial Cortex, Andrew Nicholas Nye
Electrophysiological And Morphological Characterization Of Neurons In The Granular Retrosplenial Cortex, Andrew Nicholas Nye
Theses and Dissertations
The retrosplenial cortex (RSC) is a centrally located brain region that has reciprocal connections with several brain regions important for memory, including the prefrontal cortex, para-hippocampal region, hippocampal formation, and rhinal cortices. The RSC is also well connected with structures important for sensory processing, including the parietal cortex, thalamus, and visual cortices. Due to this connectivity, and early evidence that suggests the RSC plays a critical role in learning and memory, the region has recently gained much more research attention. Early studies found that patients with brain damage that includes the RSC have difficulty with verbal and visual information, retrieving …

Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzymes are ubiquitous in plant kingdom and catalyze the oxidation of phenols to highly reactive quinones. The PPO gene plays an important role in plant defense mechanisms against biotic and abiotic stresses but the regulation of PPO promoter in stresses remains unclear. Here Oryza sativa (OsPPO) promoter was fused to firefly Luciferase (LUC) and β-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter genes separately to test the effects of wounding, abscisic acid (ABA), and methyl jasmonate (MeJ) applications on PPO promoter induction. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report about rice PPO promoter induction in response to wounding …
