Applying The Extended Parallel Process Model To Climate Change Communication, Mikenna Renee Debruin May 2023

Applying The Extended Parallel Process Model To Climate Change Communication, Mikenna Renee Debruin

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Whereas over 99% of the scientific community believes in the concept of anthropogenic climate change, lay support is still lagging behind. I suggest three key factors to lagging lay support: 1) complexity, 2) manufactured scientific controversy, and 3) doom-and-gloom framing. Because of these factors, individuals are less willing believe in the prevalence of human-induced climate change, nonetheless do something about it. The Extended Parallel Process Model (EPPM), however, presents a model to assuage eco-anxiety and counter psychological distance from the problem. The EPPM, proposed by Kim Witte in the 1990s, combines appeals to threat and appeals to efficacy to contextualize …

Dietitians’ Self-Efficacy For Implementation Strategies And Evidence-Based Practice Guideline Implementation Behaviors: A Mixed Methods Study, Lisa Moloney Jan 2023

Dietitians’ Self-Efficacy For Implementation Strategies And Evidence-Based Practice Guideline Implementation Behaviors: A Mixed Methods Study, Lisa Moloney

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Background: Evidence-based practice (EBP) guidelines are valuable tools that can help promote the implementation of research into practice. Implementation of EBP guidelines can improve the standardization and quality of healthcare, but unfortunately, they are not routinely used in daily practice. Evidence-based practice is a core component of nutrition and dietetics practice, yet little is known about registered dietitian nutritionists’ (RDNs’) implementation of EBP guidelines. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate RDNs’ reported self-efficacy for using implementation strategies and their reported implementation behaviors for EBP guidelines. Methods: An explanatory mixed methods study guided by the Theory of Planned …

The Effects Of An Imagery Intervention On Self-Efficacy During Athletic Injury Rehabilitation, Peyton Ann Bilo

WWU Graduate School Collection

The purpose of the present study was to explore the effects of a multiple script imagery intervention on athletes’ task and coping self-efficacy during injury rehabilitation. A multiple baseline design was used to assess for changes in rehabilitation self-efficacy over time. After completing a baseline phase, five adult (Mage = 29.4; SD = 9.6), competitive athletes engaged in a single guided imagery session with the lead researcher. Afterwards, participants were given four imagery audio recordings pertaining to healing, rehabilitation process, motivational, and pain management, and were instructed to listen to them 4 times per week for a range …
