Turkish Journal of Botany

The aim of the current study was to reveal the syntaxonomical structure of Pinus brutia Ten. Forests and the preforest communities in the vicinity of Antalya Gulf. Of the preforest communities, Dorsytaecho hastatae-Oleutum oleastri ass. Nova is individualized as a paraclimax association. Although little is known about the syntaxonomy of the communities of cliff, rupicolous, and mural communities in the thermomediterranean zone, these are connected with the classes Asplenietea trichomanis (Br.-Bl. İn Meier and Br.-Bl. 1934) Oberd. 1977 and Onosmetalia frutescentis Quézel 1964. In the west of the gulf, Phlomido bourgaei-Pinetum brutiae Akman et al. 1998 and its three subassociations …

A computer-based image database for freshwater algae recorded in Turkey has been established. A separate page was prepared for each algal taxon and each page includes images and taxonomic and ecological information related to the taxon. Algal images were obtained mainly from authors of algal studies previously carried out in various freshwater bodies in Turkey. Data were then standardized in accordance with that of the central database of Turkish herbaria and a database for Turkish freshwater algae, which were previously established through TÜBİTAK projects. The database program Access was used to enter data, as this program recognizes Turkish characters. A …

Differentiation Of Some Myxomycetes Species By Its Sequences, Hayri̇ Baba, Mustafa Kolukirik, Murat Zümre

Turkish Journal of Botany

Seven different PCR primers targeting 18 different myxomycetes genera were designed and ribosomal DNA ITS1-5.8SrDNA-ITS2 regions of 52 morphologically characterized species from Turkey were amplified and sequenced. The studied species belong to the genera Arcyria, Badhamia, Ceratiomyxa, Collaria, Comatricha, Cribraria, Diachea, Diderma, Didymium, Enerthenema, Lamproderma, Lycogala, Perichaena, Physarum, Reticularia, Stemonitis, Stemonitopsis, and Trichia. Significant ITS region size and sequence variations were observed among the analyzed species. The ITS based phylogenetic tree did not reflect evolutionary relationships at genus or higher level. The only exception was the genus Didymium, which formed a clearly distinctive cluster in the phylogenetic tree containing 18 …

Seed Morphology And Surface Microstructure Of Some Euphorbia (Euphorbiaceae) Taxa Distributed In Turkey-In-Europe, Levent Can, Orhan Küçüker

Turkish Journal of Botany

The taxa of the genus Euphorbia L. Have seeds that mature in schizocarp fruits, called cocci, with three or more cells, each of which explosively splits open into separate parts at maturity. The Euphorbia seeds have taxonomically useful characters. We studied 13 taxa of the genus Euphorbia distributed in Turkey-in-Europe, with a focus on the seed characters; for morphological observations we used a stereomicroscope, and for surface microstructure we used a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The morphological observations showed that the seed characters of shape, size, color, surface features, and the features of the caruncle are uniquely different. SEM observations …

Systematic Placement Of The Turkish Endemic Genus Ekimia (Apiaceae) Based On Morphological And Molecular Data, Dmitry Lyskov, Galina Degtjareva, Tahir Samigullin, Michael Pimenov Jan 2015

Systematic Placement Of The Turkish Endemic Genus Ekimia (Apiaceae) Based On Morphological And Molecular Data, Dmitry Lyskov, Galina Degtjareva, Tahir Samigullin, Michael Pimenov

Turkish Journal of Botany

The systematic position of the monotypic genus Ekimia H.Duman and M.F.Watson (Apiaceae), a narrow endemic to Turkey, was evaluated on the basis of morphological data and nrDNA ITS sequences. Ekimia bornmuelleri (Hub.-Mor. And Reese) H.Duman and M.F.Watson was initially described in Prangos Lindl. Due to the unique fruit morphology uncommon for this genus it was later shifted to an independent genus. In the Bayesian and most parsimonious trees, E. Bornmuelleri is sister to Laserpitium petrophilum Boiss. And Heldr and Laserpitium glaucum Post within the Daucinae clade. This result is consistent with its morphology: the presence of the primary and secondary …

Micromorphological Characters On Nutlet And Leaf Indumentum Of Teucrium Sect. Teucrium (Lamiaceae) In Turkey, Gülay Ecevi̇t Genç, Taner Özcan, Tuncay Di̇rmenci̇

Turkish Journal of Botany

Leaf indumentum and nutlet surface micromorphology of 13 taxa belonging to the Teucrium sect. Teucrium was studied with a scanning electron microscope. Nutlet shapes of the taxa were elliptic, obovate, oblong, or rotund, and their surfaces were generally alveolate with different ornamentations. Some nutlets had longitudinal ridges. The indumentum varied among unrelated species and showed some significant similarities within related species. In Flora of Turkey sect. Teucrium was divided into 2 groups according to leaf fragmentation and …
