Association Mapping Of Several Nut Characters In Walnut (Juglans Regia L.), Erdal Orman, Duygu Ateş, Esi̇n Özkuru, Serra Hepaksoy, Sali̇h Kafkas, Muhammed Bahatti̇n Tanyolaç

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In the current study, significant variations were identified for seven fruit traits of the walnut accessions. The highest correlations were detected between nut height and nut width, and between nut weight and kernel weight. Most traits had a continuous normal binominal distribution. A total of 16,774 single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers based on diversity arrays technology were generated and after filtering the missing data, the remaining 13,611 SNP data were used for genotyping. STRUCTURE (v.2.2) analysis revealed two possible scenarios (K = 3 and K = 5) according to the results of ΔK computation. While K = 3 indicated that walnut …

Highly Polymorphic Novel Simple Sequence Repeat Markers From Class I Repeats Inwalnut (Juglans Regia L.), Emre Eser, Hayat Topçu, Sina Kefayati, Mehmet Sütyemez, Md Rashedul Islam, Sali̇h Kafkas Jan 2019

Highly Polymorphic Novel Simple Sequence Repeat Markers From Class I Repeats Inwalnut (Juglans Regia L.), Emre Eser, Hayat Topçu, Sina Kefayati, Mehmet Sütyemez, Md Rashedul Islam, Sali̇h Kafkas

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Walnut (Juglans regia L.) is the most important species in the genus Juglans due to the high commercial value of its nuts and timber. Simple sequence repeats (SSRs) are considered as the markers of choice owing to their codominant nature. Since very few SSRs have been developed in walnut, this study aimed to develop numerous polymorphic SSRs from Class I repeats by using DNA sequences of the Chandler cultivar. In all, 800 SSRs were designed and tested in 8 Turkish, 3 French, and 5 US walnut cultivars, of which 88 (11%) did not produce bands, 161 (20.1%) were monomorphic, and …

New Technology (In Situ Grafting) For Faster Production Of Walnut (Juglans Regia L.), Borivoje Bogdanovic, Sandra Bijelic, Branislava Golosin, Dijana Kulacanin Jan 2019

New Technology (In Situ Grafting) For Faster Production Of Walnut (Juglans Regia L.), Borivoje Bogdanovic, Sandra Bijelic, Branislava Golosin, Dijana Kulacanin

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Technology regarding grafted walnut production is very complex and expensive because it depends on a number of factors that directly influence grafting success. Due to a long production period and a smaller number of first class plants compared to other fruit species, young walnut trees are among the most expensive. New in situ production technology of young walnut trees has led to quicker production, shorter by 1 year, and increased the success of grafting, allowing for large-scale production of grafted walnut. In order to increase the production of quality planting material for walnut varieties, the possibility of walnut grafting in …

Determination Of Pollen Production And Quality Of Some Local And Foreign Walnut Genotypes In Turkey, Mehmet Sütyemez Jan 2007

Determination Of Pollen Production And Quality Of Some Local And Foreign Walnut Genotypes In Turkey, Mehmet Sütyemez

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The pollen grains of 32 different walnut cultivars and types were tested in vitro to determine their viability, germination ability, and pollen production level. Viability of pollens was determined by TTC and FDA tests. The hanging drop method and agar in petri method were used for pollen germination. Pollen production of the cultigens was determined with the hemacytometric method. The rate of pollen viability of all the investigated cultigens was high (> 80%). The germination rate of the pollens ranged from 33.28% to 50.19% and the Van 4 cultivar had the highest pollen germination rate. Although similar results were obtained …

Determination Of The Apomictic Fruit Set Ratio In Some Turkish Walnut (Juglans Regia L.) Genotypes, Beki̇r Şan, Hati̇ce Dumanoğlu Jan 2006

Determination Of The Apomictic Fruit Set Ratio In Some Turkish Walnut (Juglans Regia L.) Genotypes, Beki̇r Şan, Hati̇ce Dumanoğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was carried out to determine the amount of apomictic fruit set in 10 Turkish walnut (Juglans regia L.) genotypes in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Yalova-1, Şebin, Bilecik, KR-1, KR-2, Şen-2, 07-KOR-l, Tokat-1, Kaman-1 and Kaman-5 cultivars and selections were used in the experiment. Female flowers were bagged and/or pollinated with pollen of the apple cv. 'Golden Delicious' (Malus x domestica Borkh.), and the apomictic fruit set was determined 8 weeks after anthesis. The percentage of apomictic fruit set without pollination ranged from 0.5% to 1.6% in 5 walnut genotypes, namely Yalova-1, Bilecik, 07-KOR-l, Tokat-1 and Kaman-1, in the …

Somatic Embryogenesis From Immature Cotyledons Of Apomictic And Non-Apomictic Seeds In Walnut (Juglans Regia L.), Beki̇r Şan, Hati̇ce Dumanoğlu Jan 2006

Somatic Embryogenesis From Immature Cotyledons Of Apomictic And Non-Apomictic Seeds In Walnut (Juglans Regia L.), Beki̇r Şan, Hati̇ce Dumanoğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Somatic embryogenesis from immature cotyledons of apomictic and open-pollinated seeds in some walnut (Juglans regia L.) genotypes was investigated. To obtain apomictic seeds, female flowers were bagged and/or pollinated with pollen of the apple cv. 'Golden Delicious' (Malus x domestica Borkh.). The best cotyledon stage for somatic embryogenesis was determined in open-pollinated seeds of 10 walnut genotypes. Immature cotyledons were cultured 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 weeks after anthesis. As a result of this experiment, cotyledons of seeds thought to be of apomictic origin were cultured 8 weeks after anthesis. Driver and Kuniyuki walnut (DKW) medium supplemented with 1 …

Determination Of Fruit Growth And Development In Walnut, Yaşar Akça Jan 2000

Determination Of Fruit Growth And Development In Walnut, Yaşar Akça

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was conducted to determine nut growth and development in Sebin, Bilecik, 32B-18 and 170 B-16 walnut cultivars in 1997-1998. In the study, nut length, nut diameter, nut weight with hull, kernel weight, protein content of shell, kernel and hull, oil content of shell, ash content of shell, ash content of kernel and ash content of hull were determined in the period of fruit growth. The increase in the kernel weight was slower at the beginning of the growth period, while it was rapid between June and August. There was also a rapid development in the nut diameter and …
