Salt Tolerance Of Sixteen Wheat Genotypes During Seedling Growth, Seydi̇ Ahmet Bağci, Hasan Eki̇z, Ahmet Yilmaz Jan 2007

Salt Tolerance Of Sixteen Wheat Genotypes During Seedling Growth, Seydi̇ Ahmet Bağci, Hasan Eki̇z, Ahmet Yilmaz

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Effect of increasing application of NaCl on germination, root and shoot dry weight at early growth stage, and concentrations of potassium (K) and sodium (Na) was studied in 16 bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes grown in nutrient solution. Application of NaCl was carried out at concentrations of 2, 55, 117, 194, and 287 mM. The genotypes showed a wide range of variation for the traits measured under the NaCl treatments. The salt tolerance index (STI) of the genotypes, expressed as the ratio of dry matter yield produced under the NaCl treatments compared to the control treatment, was found to …

Effect Of Salinity Stress On Dry Matter Production And Ion Accumulation In Hybrid Maize Varieties, Seli̇m Eker, Gönül Cömertpay, Ömer Konuşkan, Ahmet Can Ülger, Levent Öztürk, İsmai̇l Çakmak Jan 2006

Effect Of Salinity Stress On Dry Matter Production And Ion Accumulation In Hybrid Maize Varieties, Seli̇m Eker, Gönül Cömertpay, Ömer Konuşkan, Ahmet Can Ülger, Levent Öztürk, İsmai̇l Çakmak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The salt stress tolerance of 19 hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) varieties was tested in nutrient solution during the early growth stage under controlled environmental conditions. For the salt stress treatment, sodium chloride (NaCl) was applied to nutrient solution at a concentration of 250 mM for 6 days before the harvest. Plants were harvested after 17 days of growth and analyzed for shoot and root dry matter production, severity of leaf damage (necrotic patches on older leaves), and the concentrations of potassium (K), sodium (Na) and calcium (Ca) in the roots and shoots. The varieties differed greatly in their response …

Genotypic Variation In Tolerance To Boron Toxicity In 70 Durum Wheat Genotypes, Ayfer A. Torun, Ati̇lla Yazici, Hali̇l Erdem, İsmai̇l Çakmak Jan 2006

Genotypic Variation In Tolerance To Boron Toxicity In 70 Durum Wheat Genotypes, Ayfer A. Torun, Ati̇lla Yazici, Hali̇l Erdem, İsmai̇l Çakmak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

By using 70 durum wheat (Triticum durum) genotypes, a greenhouse experiment has been carried out to study genotypic variation in tolerance to boron (B) toxicity in soil. Plants were grown in a soil containing 12 mg extractable B kg^{-1} soil and treated additionally with (+B: 25 mg kg^{-1} soil) and without B (-B: 0 mg B kg^{-1} soil). Following 30 days of growth, only shoots have been harvested and analyzed for dry matter production and shoot concentrations of B. There was a large genotypic variation in tolerance to B toxicity based on the severity of leaf symptoms and decreases in …

Determination Of The Agronomic Performances Of Some Oilseed Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus L.) Hybrids Grown Under Erzurum Ecological Conditions, Hakan Özer, Erdoğan Öztürk, Taşkin Polat Jan 2003

Determination Of The Agronomic Performances Of Some Oilseed Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus L.) Hybrids Grown Under Erzurum Ecological Conditions, Hakan Özer, Erdoğan Öztürk, Taşkin Polat

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In eastern Anatolia, the sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) has been grown as a confectionary crop for a long time, but oilseed sunflower types have more recently been grown commercially. No information on the performance of oilseed sunflower hybrids for this region is, however, available. Therefore, during the 1998 and 2001 growing seasons, a field experiment was conducted to evaluate the agronomic performances and genotypic differences of some sunflower hybrids under Erzurum conditions. In this study 20 sunflower genotypes were used. The 2-year results showed that the genotypes differed significantly in all the characteristics investigated, except for kernel percentage. Similarly, the …
