Use Of Consumer Grade Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (Suas) For Mapping Storm Damage In Forested Environments, James Dewey Cox May 2022

Use Of Consumer Grade Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (Suas) For Mapping Storm Damage In Forested Environments, James Dewey Cox

Theses and Dissertations

Storm damages to forested environments pose significant challenges to landowners, land managers, and conservationists alike. Damage scope and scale assessments can be difficult, costly, and time consuming with conventional pedestrian survey techniques. Consumer grade sUAS technology offers an efficient, cost-effective way to accurately assess storm damage in small to moderate sized survey areas (less than 10 km²). Data were collected over a 0.195 km² area of damaged timber within the Kisatchie National Forest in Central Louisiana using a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone. Collected imagery was processed into an orthomosaic using Agisoft Metashape Professional with a resulting ground sampling distance …

The Role Of Human Dopamine Transporter Threonine 261 And Serine 262 In Amphetamine Regulation Of Transporter Function And Surface Expression, Sina Abdollahi Jan 2022

The Role Of Human Dopamine Transporter Threonine 261 And Serine 262 In Amphetamine Regulation Of Transporter Function And Surface Expression, Sina Abdollahi

Theses and Dissertations

Amphetamine (AMPH) has been used clinically and recreationally around the world for years. A 2021 study reports a 67.5% rise in AMPH use from 2010-2017 across all fifty states. Study also shows that 30% of patients with AMPH-induced psychosis end up with primary psychosis over time. AMPH works by inhibiting monoamine (Norepinephrine (NE), Serotonin (5-HT), and Dopamine (DA) reuptake followed by triggering transporter mediated monoamine release and consequently increases monoamine concentrations in extracellular synaptic space. AMPH also works as a substrate for monoamine transporters, enters the neuron, and once its inside the neuron, it will prevent the storage of monoamines …

Development Of Novel, Miniaturized Sperm Cell Isolation Techniques For Sexual Assault Samples, Brittany Celeste Hudson Jan 2022

Development Of Novel, Miniaturized Sperm Cell Isolation Techniques For Sexual Assault Samples, Brittany Celeste Hudson

Theses and Dissertations

The ever-increasing sexual assault evidence collection kit backlog within the United States has prompted the search (and desperate need) for a more efficient, cost-effective, and rapid processing technique that can separate male and female contributions from evidentiary samples. Although backlogs have largely been tackled across the United States and many technological advancements have made the forensic DNA analysis workflow quicker, techniques for handling sexual assault samples remain time-consuming, tedious, and inefficient at separating cellular fractions from the victim and perpetrator. Thus, this research sought to identify a reproducible sperm isolation method using antibodies and/or alternative differential cell lysis techniques as …

Developmental Validation Of A Bacterial Signature-Based Identification Method Of Forensically Relevant Human Biological Samples, Denise M. Wohlfahrt Jan 2022

Developmental Validation Of A Bacterial Signature-Based Identification Method Of Forensically Relevant Human Biological Samples, Denise M. Wohlfahrt

Theses and Dissertations

The confirmatory identification of body fluids is one of the most critical steps in criminal investigations, as it provides not only information on the source of the DNA, but it can corroborate evidence, aid in the reconstruction of a crime, and associate evidence with a person of interest. Current serological methods utilize biochemistry and immunology to identify biological evidence; however, these serological tests are mostly presumptive while only testing for one fluid at a time, potentially wasting precious evidence. More recently, forensic investigators have suggested the use of molecular methods such as mRNA, miRNA, or DNA methylation. While each of …
