Detection Of Soybean Seed Protein Qtls Using Selective Genotyping, Piyaporn Phansak
Detection Of Soybean Seed Protein Qtls Using Selective Genotyping, Piyaporn Phansak
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
A quantitative trait locus (QTL) is a statically defined location of a gene governing that trait. QTL identification is the first step towards using marker-assisted selection (MAS) to introgress desirable QTL alleles into elite high-yield cultivars. Hundreds of high protein plant introductions (PIs) exist in the USDA germplasm collection and are a source of high protein alleles. Although 86 protein QTLs are currently listed in SoyBase, many are likely repeat discoveries of the same QTL(s), given the typical +/- 10 cM confidence intervals associated with QTL positions. Six germplasm accessions of maturity groups (MGs) II to IV that exhibited high …
The Amazon Frontier Of Land-Use Change: Croplands And Consequences For Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Gillian L. Galford, Jerry Melillo, John F. Mustard, Carlos E.P. Cerri, Carlos C. Cerri
The Amazon Frontier Of Land-Use Change: Croplands And Consequences For Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Gillian L. Galford, Jerry Melillo, John F. Mustard, Carlos E.P. Cerri, Carlos C. Cerri

The Brazilian Amazon is one of the most rapidly developing agricultural frontiers in the world. The authors assess changes in cropland area and the intensification of cropping in the Brazilian agricultural frontier state of Mato Grosso using remote sensing and develop a greenhouse gas emissions budget. The most common type of intensification in this region is a shift from single-to double-cropping patterns and associated changes in management, including increased fertilization. Using the enhanced vegetation index (EVI) from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor, the authors created a green-leaf phenology for 2001-06 that was temporally smoothed with a wavelet filter. …
Functional Divergence Of Duplicated Genes In The Soybean Genome, Paul L. Auer, R. W. Doerge
Functional Divergence Of Duplicated Genes In The Soybean Genome, Paul L. Auer, R. W. Doerge
Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture
The soybean genome has undergone many different evolutionary changes that are observable with modern technologies. Of particular interest to scientists and plant breeders is the fact that the soybean genome exhibits features of genome duplication from millions of years ago. Genes that were copied during the duplication event have since diverged functionally. Identifying functionally divergent duplicate genes may provide insight into the evolution of soybean. To investigate functional divergence, transcripts from seven different tissue samples of pooled soybean messenger RNA were sequenced using the Solexa next-generation sequencer and analyzed for gene expression. We tested differential expression of duplicated genes within …

Effect Of Crop Residue On Soil Water Content And Yield Of Deficit-Irrigated Corn And Soybean, Simon Van Donk, Steven R. Melvin, Jim Peterson, Don Davison
Effect Of Crop Residue On Soil Water Content And Yield Of Deficit-Irrigated Corn And Soybean, Simon Van Donk, Steven R. Melvin, Jim Peterson, Don Davison
West Central Research and Extension Center, North Platte
It is believed that reduced tillage, with more crop residue on the soil surface, conserves water, especially in arid and semi-arid climates. However, the magnitude of water conservation is not clear. In 2007, a study was initiated on the effect of residue on soil water content and crop yield at North Platte, Nebraska. The experiment was conducted on plots planted to field corn (Zea mays L.) in 2007 and 2008, and soybean (Glycine max) in 2009. There were two treatments: residue-covered soil and bare soil. Bare-soil plots were created in April 2007 by using a dethatcher …

Coupling Of Carbon Dioxide And Water Vapor Exchanges Of Irrigated And Rainfed Maize–Soybean Cropping Systems And Water Productivity, Andrew E. Suyker, Shashi B. Verma
Coupling Of Carbon Dioxide And Water Vapor Exchanges Of Irrigated And Rainfed Maize–Soybean Cropping Systems And Water Productivity, Andrew E. Suyker, Shashi B. Verma
School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications
Continuous measurements of CO2 and water vapor exchanges made in three cropping systems (irrigated continuous maize, irrigated maize–soybean rotation, and rainfed maize–soybean rotation) in eastern Nebraska, USA during 6 years are discussed. Close coupling between seasonal distributions of gross primary production (GPP) and evapotranspiration (ET) were observed in each growing season. Mean growing season totals of GPP in irrigated maize and soybean were 1738 ± 114 and 996 ± 69 g C m−2, respectively (±standard deviation). Corresponding mean values of growing season ET totals were 545 ± 27 and 454 ± 23 mm, respectively. Irrigation affected GPP …
Assaying Of Diversity Among Soybean (Glycin Max (L.) Merr.) And Peanut (Arachis Hypogaea L.) Genotypes At Dna Level, Faheem Shehzad Baloch, Cemal Kurt, Hali̇l Hali̇s Arioğlu, Hakan Özkan
Assaying Of Diversity Among Soybean (Glycin Max (L.) Merr.) And Peanut (Arachis Hypogaea L.) Genotypes At Dna Level, Faheem Shehzad Baloch, Cemal Kurt, Hali̇l Hali̇s Arioğlu, Hakan Özkan
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Developing successful strategies to ensure future increase in yield of soybean and peanut crops hinges in part, on improving the genetic basis of the cultivars. Knowledge of genetic relationships in crop breeding programs provides valuable information that can be used by plant breeders as a parental line selection tool. So far, a thorough analysis of genetic diversity among the soybean and peanut genotypes grown in Turkey had not been attempted at DNA level. In this study, inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) and sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers were used to evaluate the genetic diversity between 21 soybean and 32 peanut cultivars …

Soybean variety and strain performance tests are conducted each year in Arkansas by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Arkansas Crop Variety Improvement Program. The tests provide information to companies developing varieties and/or marketing seed within the state, and aid the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service in formulating variety recommendations for soybean producers.
