The Effects Of Ethanol Exposure On Glucose And Lactate Levels In Crayfish, Mackenzie Kirwan
The Effects Of Ethanol Exposure On Glucose And Lactate Levels In Crayfish, Mackenzie Kirwan
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
The goal of the project is to investigate and determine the effects of sunlight exposure and hormone levels. The circadian rhyth, which is heavily influenced by sunlight, not only affects the amount of sleep someone achieves, but is also related to behavior and mood, and heavily relies on the body’s hormones for proper regulation. The hormones that are prevelant to the circadian rhythm, and which will be studied in this experiment are cortisol, serotonin and melatonin. In this experiment, these three hormones will be extracted prior to alterations of light exposure. Animal test subjects will then undergo treatment of light …
Effects Of Electronic Cigarettes On The Standard Metabolic Rate Of Crayfish, Frank Shaffer
Effects Of Electronic Cigarettes On The Standard Metabolic Rate Of Crayfish, Frank Shaffer
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
This study aims to examine the relationship between e-cigarettes (both with nicotine and without) and the effects on the standard metabolic rates of crayfish. In this experiment, 42 crayfish were divided into three treatment groups and exposed to a designated solution of either a control solution or a solution containing e-cigarette (nicotine or non-nicotine) vapor. Their standard metabolic rates were then measured by using oxygen uptake as a proxy. The results of this experiment indicate that there is no statistically significant relationship between the use of electronic cigarettes and the standard metabolic rate of crayfish. However, this study can be …
Effects Of Nicotine Vs Non-Nicotine E-Cigarettes On The Aggression Behavior Of Crayfish, Alex Kimble
Effects Of Nicotine Vs Non-Nicotine E-Cigarettes On The Aggression Behavior Of Crayfish, Alex Kimble
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
This study looks at the effects of e-cigarette vapor with and without nicotine on the aggression behavior of crayfish (Procambarus clarkii). The treatment groups were control, nicotine, and non-nicotine. The mass, sex, and condition of their appendages were recorded before random assignment. For the purpose of this study only male crayfish were used as there were not enough female crayfish. The crayfish were then randomly assigned to each group and contained ten crayfish that were subjected to the e-cigarette vapor infused water environment for a twenty-four hour period. The control group did not contain e-cigarette vapor and was exposed to …
The Effects Of Aqueous Nitrate On Freshwater Crayfish, Erik Hartman
The Effects Of Aqueous Nitrate On Freshwater Crayfish, Erik Hartman
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Globalization and a rising need for greater production from the agricultural system have increased the use of fertilizer by farms across the entire country. The purpose of this experiment was to observe the effects of aqueous nitrate (commonly found in many fertilizers) on the metabolic rate and hemolymph lactate concentration of freshwater crayfish. After exposure, there was no observed change in metabolic rate, but there was a significant decrease in hemolymph lactate concentration in the groups exposed to nitrate.
