Joseph R. Zumalt
Two givens of today's Internet are diversity and volume. The Net offers a vast amount of text, sound, and graphic information. For now, getting at that information requires two ingredients: some kind of connection to the Net and a browser, a program or client that allows its user to view or listen to the network content. Browser options abound. This review with consider four packages with special attention to the browsers in each.

Linear Goal Programming For Academic Library Acquisitions Allocations, Ken Wise, D. E. Perushek
Ken Wise
The allocation of an academic library's acquisitions funds should contribute to the achievement of the library's goals and objectives. The availability of diverse materials and the varying demands of user needs in a variety of subject disciplines may represent a set of conflicting, incommensurate goals. Lexicographic linear goal programming offers an appropriate allocation methodology for determining an optimal solution with conflicting goals. This article applies this methodology to 90 funds representing books and periodicals in 45 subject disciplines at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT). The model's goals incorporate several categories of budget constraints and user needs. The application of …

The Representation And Comparison Of Hypertext Structures Using Graph Theory, Jonathan Furner, David Ellis, Peter Willett
The Representation And Comparison Of Hypertext Structures Using Graph Theory, Jonathan Furner, David Ellis, Peter Willett
Jonathan Furner
Our concern in the present chapter is with the logical structure of hypertext databases, rather than with any functional aspect of the retrieval system. Specifically, we are interested in the methods that may be used (i) in the representation of such structure, and (ii) in the comparison of representations of different structures. In Section 3, we describe how principles developed in the fields of graph theory and similarity measurement may be applied to these tasks. Firstly, however, we should explain the particular reasons we have for concerning ourselves with these matters; to this end, we outline in Section 2 the …
