After a digital project is completed and made available online, the work is not over: digital projects managers must quantify the value of these digital collections. There are a plethora of tools to measure usage, but inferring value from usage requires careful interpretation of the data. After interpretation, the results must be communicated effectively to administrators. This poster will identify sources of digital collection use data, identify pitfalls in these sources, explore ways to derive meaning from use data, and suggest strategies for communicating value measurements to library administrators.

The task forces are drafting proposed metrics and standards, but calls for how to implement data gathering continue. Both librarians and student employees staff our virtual reference service, so ensuring consistent and quality chat transactions is important. Sample transcripts from fall 2014 were evaluated, and a fall 2015 follow-up analysis reviewed service improvement efforts. In 2013 DIT developed a set of graduate attributes known as the “Five E’s”: Engaged, Enterprising, Enquiry based, Effective and Expert in chosen subject discipline. Each of these five attributes is comprised of several additional attributes, one of which is digital literacy.

This presentation explains what digital literacy is, why it is an important attribute for our students and graduates to develop, and discusses practical ways of creating a mapping between a programme’s assessment methods and the digital literacy graduate attribute.

This poster describes a yearlong project to assess student learning and engagement in archival instruction sessions using primary source materials held in Augustana College Special Collections. Special Collections staff has taken a four-pronged approach to assessing these sessions: a special test-based assessment project targeting first year students in introductory rhetoric classes (LSFY101), one-minute surveys asking participating students about their experience, comprehensive surveys targeting students and faculty, and in-class worksheets graded against a rubric to determine students’ ability to apply skills learned during the sessions. All data has been quantified and will be used to improve future class sessions.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the significance of faculty autonomy in sustaining a successful information literacy program.

Design/methodology/approach – Faculty members were given the opportunity to create courses that integrated and assessed information literacy as part of a course grant program associated with an institutional assessment mandate. This case study analyzes course grant proposals, course assessment methods and results. It also presents results of a follow-up survey of faculty participants to see if they continued to integrate information literacy in other courses. This paper describes a pilot adaptation of the Amazing Library Race (ALR), an academic library orientation designed to introduce new users to library resources and services. A total of 185 students in twelve classes participated in the pilot project, which the authors co-taught. Pedagogically, the ALR combines guided, problem-based learning concepts with key elements of gamification, including competition and reward motivation. Collaboration with other entities and individuals has long been a standard practice of libraries. Typically, these collaborations seek to reduce redundancies, save money, and support educational and research efforts. However, a new model of collaboration exists that both assists discipline-specific research practices and informs library procedures. This article reviews two collaborations between an assessment librarian and a sociology class. The collaborations are unique because the library is the focus of the collaboration, with sociology students being able to apply classroom learning in a real-world setting.
