Recently the Boise State University English Department and Albertsons Library collaborated on digitizing a collection of out-of-print editions of the Western Writers Series. Boise State publishes the Western Writers Series which consists of 50-60 page booklets of authoritative introductions to writers and classic texts that relate to literature of the American West. This poster will showcase the collaboration and motivation that went into the Western Writers Series Digital Editions. The motivation behind each stakeholder’s participation in this project will be outlined. In 2007, a 23 million dollar renovation project was completed on the Georgia State University Library. A result of this “transformation” project was the Learning Commons space and the Learning Commons Department. The Learning Commons Department was born to serve undergraduates as the Liaison Department primarily served graduate students. A year later, the Learning Commons space has been quite successful –computer use is at a premium and students seem to enjoy the group study rooms. This article reviews the recent literature about the essential but often uneasy alliances made between content experts (archivists and librarians) and technology experts. Differing professional cultures, misunderstandings of one another, limited abilities to envision change, and lack of support from top-level administrators are the most often cited reasons for the persistent difficulty in working together. Failure to collaborate may result in the marginalization or exclusion of content experts from projects where their professional skills are most needed. Purpose – The purpose of this article is to describe the successful collaboration between faculty in Eastern Kentucky University Libraries and the University's Occupational Therapy Department in supporting a graduate student learning community, and the benefits of stepping outside of typical liaison activities to play an active role in this new educational paradigm.

At research universities, the library plays a critical role in meeting the information needs of researchers. As libraries expand their electronic resources, researchers are less likely to visit the library and may be unaware of available services and resources. In addition, not all research team members are reached during traditional library orientation sessions. Institutional repositories are an exciting innovation in scholarly communication and liberal arts institutions have a unique opportunity to create repository collections that reflect their tradition. However, the challenges of cost, staffing, infrastructure, standardized metadata, and content recruitment that are part and parcel of developing institutional repositories may be daunting to individual liberal arts institutions. The idea that multiple, like-minded institutions could join forces to share their efforts, unique challenges, and maximize their efficiencies grew into the Liberal Arts Scholarly Repository (LASR). The Relationship Between Service Learning And Research, Jennifer E. Nutefall

In Fall 2006, a faculty member in George Washington University's University Writing 20 (UW20) program began incorporating service learning into her theme-based first-year writing course. Along with her librarian partner, they linked two research assignments to the service work of the students. An end-of-semester survey was administrated over three semesters with one question asking if the student's research process was affected by their service experience. In reviewing and analyzing student comments, four themes emerged: increased motivation, use of numerical data and primary sources, increased knowledge in approaching and limiting topics, and the potential for bias.
