Improving Students’ Achievement In Physics Using Library Electronic Journals, Christian Ugwuanyi

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Electronic journals in libraries are essential for updating facilities and expanding services so that users can acquire the information they require. The modern epoch is marked by an information and knowledge revolution. Electronic materials are now available to libraries in a variety of formats. As a result of technology advancements and higher expectations in teaching and learning, 21st-century classrooms demand a lot from both teachers and students. Most parents nowadays purchase (smartphones, tablets, or laptops) for their children without realizing the educational benefits of these devices in allowing access to online learning materials. Electronic journals from libraries have proven to …

Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Internet Library Resources On Students’ Achievement In Physics, Christian S. Ugwuanyi Phd Jan 2022

Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Internet Library Resources On Students’ Achievement In Physics, Christian S. Ugwuanyi Phd

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Because the face-to-face form of learning was temporarily suspended at the start of the pandemic, the way learners learned prior to the appearance of coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) was severely impacted. When the pandemic was at its worst, most developed countries switched to online education, while most developing countries' schools were shut down entirely. A lack of web resources in those developing countries was one of the reasons for this. Internet library resources have been found to have the potential to improve teaching and learning, according to the literature. However, no empirical research has been done in Nigeria to examine the …

Virtual Browsing Via Deeplinked Catalog Searches, Scott A. Warren Jun 2004

Virtual Browsing Via Deeplinked Catalog Searches, Scott A. Warren

Libraries' and Librarians' Publications

This project facilitates virtual browsing by means of deeplinked catalog searches based on Library of Congress (LC) subject headings and call numbers. Collocating these searches by discipline in pulldown menus opens up the physical book collection in a seamless online fashion to users lacking LC subject heading knowledge, but possessing subject knowledge. Virtual browsing is important because it may aid awareness of and increased use of print collections in large libraries, especially by researchers who rarely visit the library physically.

Use Of Electronic Science Journals In The Undergraduate Curriculum: An Observational Study, Carol Tenopir, Peiling Wang, Richard Pollard, Yan Zhang, Beverly Simmons

School of Information Sciences -- Faculty Publications and Other Works

Phase 2 of a 2-phase project funded by the NSF- National Science Digital Library Project observed undergraduate and graduate engineering, chemistry, and physics students and faculty while they searched the ScienceDirect e-journals system for scholarly science journal articles for simulated class-related assignments. Think-aloud protocol was used to capture affective and cognitive state information, while online monitoring provided an automatic log of interactions with the system. Pre- and post-search questionnaires and a learning style test provided additional data. Preliminary analysis shows differences in search patterns among undergraduates, graduates, and faculty. All groups used basic search functions the most. Graduate students on …
