Scholarly Publishing Resources: Cutting Edge Technology To Assist Faculty With Bibliometric Data And Scholarly Publishing, Marc Vinyard, Jaimie Beth Colvin

Jaimie Beth Colvin

Pepperdine librarians created a comprehensive guide on publishing resources in response to questions we have received over the year from professors on topics such as the best journals to publish in, the prestige of journals, and how often their articles are cited. By creating this guide, we increased our knowledge of bibliometrics, which involves measuring the influence of scholarly research based on how often articles, books and journals are cited by other researchers. We have increased faculty engagement with the library because professors are interested in resources that assist them with the publishing and ultimately their success as scholars. Pepperdine …

This paper presents a citation analysis of Internext-Review of International Business to detect the impact caused by papers published for the period 2006-2013. The Publish or Perish (PoP) software is used, which retrieves articles and citations from Google Scholar database. Is There A Relationship Between Research Sponsorship And Publication Impact? An Analysis Of Funding Acknowledgments In Nanotechnology Papers, Jue Wang, Philip Shapira

This study analyzes funding acknowledgments in scientific papers to investigate relationships between research sponsorship and publication impacts. We identify acknowledgments to research sponsors for nanotechnology papers published in the Web of Science during a one-year sample period. We examine the citations accrued by these papers and the journal impact factors of their publication titles. The results show that publications from grant sponsored research exhibit higher impacts in terms of both journal ranking and citation counts than research that is not grant sponsored. We discuss the method and models used, and the insights provided by this approach as well as it …

Will Open Access Get Me Cited? An Analysis Of The Efficacy Of Open Access Publishing In Political Science, Amy Atchison, Jonathan Bull

Amy Atchison

The digital revolution has made it easier for Political Scientists to share and access high-quality research online. However, many of these articles are stored in proprietary databases that some institutions cannot afford. High-quality, peer reviewed, top-tier journal articles that have been made open access (freely available online) should theoretically be more easily accessed and cited than articles of similar quality that are only available to paying customers. Research into the efficacy of Open Access (OA) publishing has thus far focused mainly on the natural sciences, and the results have been mixed. Because OA has not been as widely adopted in …
