When it comes to social media, libraries are certainly posting, but is anyone listening? How can libraries create engaging content, attract and sustain followers, and create a sense of community among their user groups? In this session, two librarians from different institutions will share how they were able to successfully engage their patrons through multiple social media platforms, resulting in thousands of interactions with a variety of audiences. This poster will demonstrate how to use Kahoot!, a free game-based learning platform, to make research methods an interactive teaching experience. Instead of lecture-based, mid-semester recap covering topics such as source evaluation, keyword refinement, and database searching, Kahoot! helps transform a class from boring to exciting. The purpose of this article is to summarize the importance of practicing social listening and online engagement on behalf of one’s library. While the literature shows that libraries, both public and academic, often strategize their social media goals to include listening, a concerted effort should be made by all libraries with an online presence to take an active role in engagement. By including social listening in one’s social media plan, goals and objectives, a library can anticipate a higher rate of engagement and meaningful interactions with their patrons.

Strategic social media plays a crucial role in contemporary customer relationship management (CRM); however, the best practices for social CRM are still being discovered and established. The ever-changing nature of social media challenges the ability to establish benchmarks; nonetheless, this article captures and shares actions, insights, and experiences of using social media for CRM.
