Changes In Gaming And Gaming Participants In The United States, Roy A. Cook, Laura J. Yale

Public interest and acceptance of casino gaming as a recreational activity has resulted in a proliferation of gaming locations. The spread of gaming locations and the acceptance of gaming as a legitimate leisure activity may be explained from a marketing perspective through diffusion theory. Gaming could see continued revenue growth and participation or, like lotteries, it could face saturation and even decline. To avoid the potential problems associated with maturation, gaming operators may need to review the experiences of state lotteries which have faced and dealt with the problems of maturation and saturation.

Part I of this article discusses population statistics in greater detail, exploring available financial demographics of seniors and showing that many seniors are likely to be in need of affordable housing today, and that many more will likely join this group in the future. This Article provides a systematic empirical investigation of the genesis of state and local immigration regulations, discrediting the popular notion that they are caused by uneven demographic pressures across the country. Instead, we find systematic evidence for the significance of political contexts such as the strength of political parties in states and localities. The story we tell in this paper is both political and legal: understanding immigration politics uncovers vital truths about the recent rise of subnational involvement in a policy arena courts and commentators have traditionally ascribed to the federal government. With this update to the original groundbreaking study of Massachusetts Immigrants by the Numbers in 2009, we continue to focus on the economic and social contributions that immigrants have made in building the vibrant Massachusetts economy. It shows that, despite heightened public debate, the demographic characteristics and economic trends of the state’s immigrant population have remained largely unchanged. Immigrants continue to have a positive impact on the Commonwealth.

At the request of the Western Australian Bar Association, the authors undertook a study into issues of diversity at the Western Australian Bar. Members of the Association had noticed, but not specifically studied, various demographic imbalances in the Bar’s constitution. A review of the literature revealed that there was a paucity of statistical analysis of the makeup of Australian barrister associations generally, let alone into any specific reasons as to how and why a demographic imbalance might exist. A strange thing is happening in and across Indian country: the number of federally recognized tribal nations continues to increase—the Tejon people of California were readmitted to the ranks in early January of this year, bringing the number of such groups to 566—while the population figures for existing federally recognized native peoples continues to decline because of the ongoing number of disenrollments of tribal members.
