Despite the urgent need for new, effective antibiotics, few antibiotics of value have entered the market during the past decades. Therefore, incentives have been developed to stimulate antibiotic R&D. For these incentives to be effective, geographic availability for recently approved antibiotics needs to be better understood. In this study, we analyze geographic availability and market introduction of antibiotics approved between 1999 and 2014.

A Room With A Brew: A Comparative Look At Homebrewing Laws In Japan & The United States, Christopher J. Fraga

Following the enactment of Prohibition, it took the United States almost four decades to legalize homebrewing. Subsequently, the nation experienced a booming interest in beer. And not just beer, but good beer. Drinkers found themselves invested in both quality and variety. This interest has matured into the craft beer industry. Even in holdover states, where state laws prohibited homebrewing far past 1979, the craft beer industry has experienced near exponential growth following the legalization of homebrewing. This has resulted in significant economic implications. Given these considerations, nations with restrictive homebrewing laws, like Japan, should consider easing them. When specifically applied …

With the enactment of the Leahy-Smith American Invents Act (AIA), U.S. patent law gained a new post-grant opposition system and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). While the U.S. post-grant opposition system has some similarities to the post-grant systems, such as that in the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Australia, there are also notable differences. Navigating one’s own post-grant system can be challenging, but doing so in multiple patent offices around the world is daunting. The global Unmanned Aircraft System, or unmanned aerial systems (UAS) revolution is poised to have an impact across a broad range of industries from agriculture to filmmaking. The United States has taken a difficult and slower path to implementing UAS policy, with Congress essentially mandating the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to take action in 2015. The FAA's 624-page rulebook marks the first attempt of any comprehensive plan to regulate remote-controlled and commercial aircraft activity. This essay revisits earlier work on the relationship between insolvency law and secured credit, the role of secured transactions law reforms, and the benefits of secured credit. These complex relationships require a holistic approach toward reforms of secured transactions law and insolvency law. Merely enacting sensible secured transactions laws and insolvency laws may be insufficient to produce the intended benefits from either set of laws.
