The purpose of the writer's original investigation was to find out what influences and connections existed between the two Reformations. The purpose of this study is to show that before Henry VIII English efforts at union were almost wholly political. At least there is no mention of religious-political parties. War and conciliation were the diplomatic weapons. After Henry's break with the Pope by the Act of Supremacy in 1534 and to 1707 when the final union of the crowns took place political and religious relations became closely entwined.
