The Church Resists The Nazis, G J. Gerike

Bachelor of Divinity

It shall be the burden of this paper to try to paint a. fair1y accurate picture of the Church conditions under the Nazis, and to show that the Church did resist the Nazis, but perhaps the resistance was not as virile as it might have been. Christianity And The Mystery Religions Wit Special Reference To Mithraism, Edwin Lehman Jun 1956

Christianity And The Mystery Religions Wit Special Reference To Mithraism, Edwin Lehman

Bachelor of Divinity

The problem of the relationship of the mystery religions to Christianity Is no mere academic question. While the common layman has very likely never heard of the mystery religions he at least has been indirectly influenced by thoughts which these re1igions have provoked. The entire modern school of liberal criticism is based to a greater or lesser degree upon the thesis that Christianity was merely an outgrowth of the mystery-religions, one which evolved to a higher degree to be sure, but one which nevertheless borrowed most of its theological content and form directly from the mystery religions. It is this …

The Policies And The Practices Of Archbishop Laud, Stephan John Korinko Jun 1956

The Policies And The Practices Of Archbishop Laud, Stephan John Korinko

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this investigation was to discover, if possible, the actual policies and practices of William Laud while he was the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is unfair to have only accusations leveled against; Laud. It is, likewise, just as unfair to have only a glowing account of Laud 's life. For these reasons the writer has attempted to discover what the policies of Laud were concerning the church and the state, as well as his method and practice in applying these principles to the church of his day.

The Peace-Offering Of The Old Testament, John Dede Jun 1956

The Peace-Offering Of The Old Testament, John Dede

Bachelor of Divinity

The subject with which we are here concerned is the Old Testament peace-offering. To the New Testament Christian, Who no longer relies for his salvation upon ritual sacrifices, but rather trusts in the atoning work of Christ, that subject may seem of little value. But to a Christian who realizes that his faith is founded in the Word of God in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, any inquiry into the subject matter of that Book becomes important. As the apostle says, “These things were written for our learning.”

The Synagogue As The Center Of The Sabbath Worship At The Time Of Christ, Gerald B. Wunrow

Bachelor of Divinity

The question which the writer has posed and has endeavored in some degree to answer in this study is: What was the synagogue like as a house of worship at the time of Christ? By way of shedding light on this question the study includes a brief survey of the origin and historica1 development of the synagogue, an examination of synagogue architecture in the early centuries of the common era, and a study of the Sabbath worship service as it probably took place at the time of Christ. The writer is fully aware that for want of exact historical and …

A History Of Concordia College, New Orleans, Henry Niermann

Bachelor of Divinity

The problem dealt with in this paper has led up to the question, Why did the school close? A threefold answer has been offered: (a) Conditions in the city of New Orleans did not permit the expansion of the school; (b) The Lutheran people in the South did not gift proper support to the school; ( c) There was a lack of measures on the part of the leaders to avert a crisis.

The report was written with a hope that some of the problems and difficulties which face secondary schools may be met, and that the schools of the …

Factors Which Influenced The Development Of Jonathan Edwards, Donald L. Biggs Jun 1956

Factors Which Influenced The Development Of Jonathan Edwards, Donald L. Biggs

Bachelor of Divinity

"'The real life of Jonathan Edwards was the life of his Mind.” Her s the perfect example of a writer who emerged out of the passions, the feuds, and the anxieties of his society. Thus, in dealing with Jonathan Edwards and the thought which influenced New England for nearly a century after his death, it is necessary to deal first of all with the passions, the feuds, and the anxieties from which he arose. Without these there can really be no true understanding of' the man and his thought. It is legitimate to ask the question, “What are the factors …
