In this interview, Dr. Jim Rogers discusses: his education and employment history; a brief section on his military training; a very detailed discussion of his involvement with Vietnam Veterans of America (which is the bulk of the interview); a discussion of Agent Orange; other Vietnam veteran organizations (such as the National League of Families); a brief section on the political situation in the Philippines at the time; a lecture & slide presentation based on his return visits to Vietnam; and other topics.

In 1963, the shock waves of the sit-in movement and the growing black unrest throughout the country reached Huntington. This growing discontent with the status quo of segregation and racial discrimination and the impulse from the sit-in movement for direct, non-violent protest combined to mobilize several students at Marshall University who formed the Civic Interest Progressives (CIP), a biracial civil rights group.

Collection contains 14 volumes of `Longview,' a newsletter written by patients 1948-1962. Three scrapbooks relate to the West Virginia Mental Health Association and its efforts to improve care for mental health patients in the state.

This collection consists of a copy of one ten-page typescript entitled, “Resume of the confusion of the Revolutionary War records of John Lewis”. This typescript was on deposit at the library of the Daughters of the American Revolution where it was copied. The typescript discusses issues with war records about John Lewis, for which there are several who served during the Revolutionary War.

This collection includes physician’s notebooks, photographs, and newspaper clippings related to the Hallanan family. The bulk of the collection is four volumes related to Thomas B. Hallanan’s practice as a physician, including a birth records book for the years 1920 and 1921 for births near Barboursville and McComas and three physician’s notebooks tracking accounts with patients and notes about visits. The four photographs in the collection are unidentified. Newspaper clippings relate to the social and political lives of Walter S. Hallanan, Imogene Hallanan, Thomas Hallanan, and Betty Hallanan.
