Potential Extensions To Transformational Leadership Models, C.R.A. Jackson
Potential Extensions To Transformational Leadership Models, C.R.A. Jackson
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
The view adopted in this research was that transformational leadership (Bass 1985; Burns 1978) could be characterised by an ability to bring about significant change in an organization, and that transactional leadership above was inadequate for this task. Since the 1980s, research (Avolio & Bass 2002; Bass 1990; Parry 1996) supported the idea that transformational leadership was more effective than transactional leadership in generating the extra effort, commitment and satisfaction of those being led (Bass 1990). Transformational leadership was a process where leaders and followers raised one another to higher moral and motivational levels (Yukl 1971). As Bass (1990) asserted, …

Validation Of An Emotional Intelligence Scale: A Case Of An African Sample, Ibraheem Dooba
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
There has been serious effort to develop scales to measure emotional intelligence since the first measure of an aspect of emotional intelligence – the perception of affective content in ambiguous visual stimuli (Mayer, DiPaolo, & Salovey, 1990) – was reported in a scientific journal (Mayer, Caruso, & Salovey, 2000). The studies were done in relation with a number of variables such as academic achievement (Newsome, Day, and Catano, 2000); leadership (Humphrey, 2002); personality (Lopes, Salovey, and Straus, 2003; Newsome et al. 2000); sex (Charbonneau and Nicol, 2002; Saklofske, Austin, and Minski, 2003), and IQ (Saklofske et al., 2003).

Educational Restructuring And The Policy Process: The Toronto District School Board 1997-2003, Duncan Maclellan
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
This paper will examine the seminal events leading up to passage of the Fewer School Boards Act (Bill 104), and its impact on the newly created Toronto District School Board (TDSB). While the focus of this paper will be on Bill 104, it is important to note that significant structural changes needed to occur in Toronto and its neighbouring municipalities before Bill 104 could take effect. To facilitate these changes, the Ontario government introduced and passed Bill 148 An Act to Establish a New City of Toronto. Bill 148 amalgamated the City of Toronto with the surrounding cities of East …

What Is Rigor?: A Qualitative Analysis Of One School’S Definition, Heather Bower, Joelle Powers
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
In an era of increasing accountability, school administrators and faculties often find themselves amid a plethora of best practices and strategies aimed at improving students’ academic achievement. In the midst of these discussions, school culture is often hailed as the key to creating effective schools because it defines how people within a particular school are to behave and what they are to value (Stolp & Smith, 1995). Furthermore, it allows administrators to draw attention to some of the culture’s most important aspects: its values, beliefs, and assumptions that create the school’s vision for excellence (Stolp & Smith, 1995). Malloy (2005) …

Science Homework And Parental Involvement: Factors Influencing Behaviors And Attitudes, Dana Harwell, Kate Brown
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
The purpose of this study is to understand confounding information regarding homework and school achievement. Recent research has sought to identify specific factors impacting student success as it relates to homework including parental involvement, parental education, gender, socio-economic status, computer and internet use, extra-curricular activities, and other factors. Unfortunately, the results of these studies have lacked consensus. The review of the literature shows attempts have been made to isolate co-variates along with important factors such as gender, parental involvement, and student characteristics, but the results have been unclear.
