Higher education institutions seem to be engaged in a reactive process when thinking about education for sustainable development, instead of being proactive. This chapter explores the role of universities in job creation. It does this by taking two approaches. The first is to look at how the university sees its role as expanding from traditional first and second mission activities to encompass third mission activities including industry engagement and how this supports job creation and economic development.
