Bioenergetic Analysis Of Female Volleyball, Christine Sjoberg
Bioenergetic Analysis Of Female Volleyball, Christine Sjoberg
Student Work
Volleyball is a demanding sport typified by repeated high intensity bouts of activity consisting of jumping, spiking, diving, and running. Practice sessions for collegiate level play generally last from two to three hours. The total energy requirement for extended practice sessions has not been directly measured and compared to dietary intake to assess whether collegiate athletes' energy intake meets the energy demand of the sport. The purpose of this study was to establish the energy balance of female collegiate volleyball athletes during typical team training days. A bioenergetic analysis was conducted by directly measuring oxygen consumption (V0 2) during actual …

The purpose of this study was to determine if differences existed between female collegiate sport participation and non-participation, as well as female collegiate individual and team sport participation on the total, the specific dimensions of self-concept and supplementary scores as rendered by the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale Second Edition TSCS:2 (Fitts & Warren, 1996). A subject pool of N=190 participants were used. All subjects included in data analysis were female undergraduate students. A multivariate analysis of variance (M ANOVA) was utilized to evaluate effects of sports participation versus non-participation and individual versus team sports participation on self-concept. On sports participation versus …

Perceptions And Factors Influencing Success In Professional Preparation Physical Therapy Education, Mira H. Mariano
Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education
The purpose of this study was to gather data on student background characteristics, the perceptions of social and academic support, and self-concept of current professional preparation physical therapy (PT) students. The study used mixed methods with entry-level PT students from Virginia and North Carolina. Questionnaires were collected from 575 of 778 PT students for a 74% response rate. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 respondents. Girves and Wemmerus' conceptual model …
Adolescent Obesity: A Study Of The Effects Of Parent Attitudes On Physical Activity, John Arthur Fieldhouse
Adolescent Obesity: A Study Of The Effects Of Parent Attitudes On Physical Activity, John Arthur Fieldhouse
Theses Digitization Project
Examines the relationship between parent attitudes toward physical activity and physical activity in adolescents. One hundred forty-two students at Beaumont High School (Riverside County, California) completed a survey measuring their physical activity level, exercise self-efficacy, and their attitudes toward exercise. One hundred seven parents completed surveys measuring only their attitudes toward exercise. Results indicate that there is not a significant relationship between parental attitudes toward exercise and adolescent physical activity. Results also indicate that parent attitude toward physical activity is positively correlated with exercise self-efficacy in adolescents. In addition, the results indicate that gender is not a significant mediator in …

The Effects Of Gender On Preservice Teachers' Motivation On Teaching Physical Education, Kentaro Kajiyama
Theses Digitization Project
The project examines the effects of gender and academic achievement on motivation for teaching in physical education. A total of 57 (Female = 33; Male = 24) preservice teachers, randomly selected from a Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program in southern California participated in the study. Participants completed a Teacher Motivation for Teaching questionnaire (TMT-PE) and a demographic questionnaire. Results indicate that both male and female preservice teachers tend to be motivated for teaching by perceived feedback from other teachers, principals, and supervisors. Female teachers were more likely to be motivated by perceived feedback than male teachers.
