Aggressive management of diabetes using American Diabetes Association (ADA) best practice guidelines in hospitalized patients reduces morbidity and mortality. Inpatient electronic medical records systems improve care in chronic diseases by identifying care needs and improving the data available for decision making and disease management. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the impact of ADA best practice guidelines of glycemic management once they have been entered into the electronic medical record (EMR) of hospitalized diabetics.
