The Jurassic Todilto Formation Of New Mexico, Henry O. Ash

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The Todilto formation of New Mexico is a widespread and distinctive Jurassic unit confined to the northern one-half of the State and adjacent parts of Arizona and Colorado. It consists of a lower Limestone member and an upper Gypsum member. The Gypsum member also contains some limestone. The two members are not coextensive in area. Both are present in the central part of the area in which the formation is found, but the Limestone member extends far beyond the limits of the Gypsum member.

The Environment Of The Jurassic Todilto Basin, Northwestern New Mexico, Douglas W. Kirkland

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The Todilto evaporites of Upper Jurassic age were precipitated in a basin which covered more then 34,000 square miles of northwestern New Mexico and parts of Colorado and Arizona. The Todilto formation consists of a lower Limestone and an upper Gypsum member, and has a maximum thickness of a little more than 100 feet. Both members are varved.

Geology Of The Southern Part Of The Ortiz Mountains Santa Fe County, New Mexico, John W. Peterson May 1958

Geology Of The Southern Part Of The Ortiz Mountains Santa Fe County, New Mexico, John W. Peterson

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The Ortiz Mountains lie in a belt of early Tertiary intrusive centers adjacent to the Rio Grande depression of north-central New Mexico. Tertiary organic activity and subsequent erosion have etched this mountain group into considerable relief.

Intrusive activity occurred during early Tertiary Espinaso time and resulted in emplacement of sills and dikes of a central stock. Correlation of volcanism with intrusive phases is difficult. Most volcansim probably occurred during the later part of Ortiz igneous activity. An elongate vent is exposed in the eastern part of the mountains and structurally occupies the highest position in the group.

The principle igneous …

Geology Of The Southern Part Of Wellsville Mountain, Wasatch Range, Utah, Ronald H. Gelnett May 1958

Geology Of The Southern Part Of Wellsville Mountain, Wasatch Range, Utah, Ronald H. Gelnett

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Wellsville Mountain is 10 miles west of Logan, Utah, at the northern extremity of the Wasatch Range. Paleozoic rocks form a northeast-dipping homocline bounded in part by northwest-trending high-angle faults and cut by a series of northeast-trending high-angle faults. A major transverse fault, with a stratigraphic displacement of 4,500 feet, divides the mountain into two distinct blocks.

The rock units of the area are comparable to those of the Logan quadrangle immediately to the east. Pre-Cambrian rocks crop out in Box Elder Canyon, just east of Brigham City, and are overlain by at least 20,000 feet of northeast-dipping Paleozoic rocks …

Geology Of The Northern Part Of Wellsville Mountain, Northern Wasatch Range, Utah, Stanley S. Beus

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Wellsville Mountain forms the extreme northern end of the Wasatch Range in northern Utah. It lies at the western margin of the Middle Rocky Mountain province and is bordered by valleys of the Basin and Range province. Many geologic investigations have been made in this region. Much of the Wasatch Range has been studied and mapped as well as parts of the Bear River Range, east of Cache Valley, and the Malad Range which extends north from Wellsville Mountain; however, the geology of Wellsville Mountain has not been studied or mapped in detail. Some reconnaissance mapping has been done and …

Geology Of The Northern Part Of The Ortiz Mountains, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, Otis M. Mcrae Apr 1958

Geology Of The Northern Part Of The Ortiz Mountains, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, Otis M. Mcrae

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The northern part of the Ortiz Mountains of north-central New Mexico consists of a tilted fault block of Cretaceous Mancos shale and Mesaverde formation intruded by latite-andesite porphyry sills and laccoliths and a nepheline-bearing augite manzonite stock. Igneous activity started with the development of a volcanic vent in what is now the central part of the mountains. Volcanic debris from the vent want removed from the area by erosion and provided sedimentary material for the late [ ] Espinaso volcanics of the adjoining areas. Intrusion of the latite-andesite porphyry sills and laccolite followed extrusive igneous activity, as demonstrated by the …

Geology Of The Northern End Of San Pedro Mountain, Rio Arriba And Sandoval Counties, New Mexico, Osler C. Hutson Apr 1958

Geology Of The Northern End Of San Pedro Mountain, Rio Arriba And Sandoval Counties, New Mexico, Osler C. Hutson

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The structural complexity of this area provided the initial stimulus for this study. With encouragement from Dr. Vincent C. Kelley, the study of this area was undertaken as a master's thesis project. The field work necessary to the project was begun in February, 1957 and completed during the summer of 1957. Mapping was accomplished with the aid of aerial photographs scaled two inches equals one mile. Data were transferred from photographs to a U.S. Soil Conservation Service planimetric map. Strati graphic sections were measured with Brunton compass and a 50-foot steel tape.

Microstratigraphic And Sedimentational Studies Of An Early Man Site Near Lucy, New Mexico, Jerry Harbour Apr 1958

Microstratigraphic And Sedimentational Studies Of An Early Man Site Near Lucy, New Mexico, Jerry Harbour

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The purpose of the study has been to interpret the sedimentary record of the Lucy site deposits in order to establish a climatic sequence into which various cultural zones, especially the Sandia, may be placed, and to date this climatic sequence as accurately as possible. A second purpose has been to establish the reliability of the Pleistocene Lake Estancia shore levels as a regional floating chronology of climatic events, and to correlate the Lucy site sediments with this regional chronology. By means of the Lucy site artifacts, this chronology is partly fixed in time, so as a result of the …
