Walt Disney’s Mulan (1998) tells the heroic story of Fa Mulan, whose unique character is both female and Asian. Mulan, who is kind hearted, brave, and easy to relate to, has since become an international hero that continues to inspire an appreciation for and to highlight Asian culture in the media. The story is based on the legend of Hua Mulan, which was originally told as a poem known as the Ballad of Mulan. This chapter offers an analysis of the heroism of the character of Elle Woods in the movie 'Legally Blonde'. Elle must overcome judgmental, clique-ish Harvard Law students and the universal expectation that she will never make it through a semester at Harvard, let alone somehow come out on top. The belief that her appearance and her different socialization will cause her to completely fail at Harvard ends up helping her transform motivationally and intellectually in a manner consistent with underdog heroes.
