Mechanisms Responsible For Sinkhole Flooding On An Urbanized Karst Terrain: South Sunrise / Media Drive, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Thomas Feeney

Sinkhole flooding on the urban karst area of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was studied by investigating past flood events in the South Sunrise/Media Drive Sinkhole. The actual flood levels of four floods were compared to levels calculated by an empirical runoff determination method. Outflow capacity tests and dye tracing revealed the nature of drainage within the karst depression.

The Soil Conservation Service runoff determination method and the three-hour maximum rainfall event were used to estimate the level of flooding. Three of the four flood events studied provided deviations between the actual and calculated flood levels of less than 0.26 feet (0.08 …

Fracture Detection In A Volcanic Oil Reservoir Using Discriminant Analysis Of Well Log Data, Joseph William Cross

A new method of detecting fractures using well logs is presented. The technique uses discriminant analysis to distinguish fractured from unfractured reservoir rock and was developed for the volcanic pay zone of Jatibarang oilfield, West Java, Indonesia.

The a priori information required to derive the discriminant function was provided by 22 wells known to penetrate intervals of either fractured or unfractured volcanics. The samples consisted of these 22 intervals digitized in one-meter increments (1256 meters total thickness). The discriminating variables were the petrophysical measurements made by 10 different types of well logs.

Phytoplankton production in the Delaware Estuary (USA) was measured over several seasonal cycles (1980-1985). Limited information and observations indicate that there are some significant amounts of hardwood residue resources now available in the Central Coast area. Experience gained from managing and marketing eastern hardwoods is considered as our basis for dealing with western hardwood problems. Inventory of the oak resource is discussed as a preliminary requirement for management. In addition, hardwood marketing, research and extension needs are also considered. Evidence indicates that western hardwood use will be improved by better funded programs of research and extension in residue utilization and marketing. In 1975, amendments to the Fisheries Act provided for the licensing and control of commercial fish farming activities and , for specific declared species, further controls on their processing and marketing. To date, marron has been the only species to be declared a "farm fish". Winter And Summer Sediment Nutrient Exchange Rates In Hillsborough Bay, Florida, City Of Tampa Department Of Sanitary Sewers

Winter and summer in-situ measurements of sediment oxygen demand (SOD) and nutrient exchange rates (NERs) were taken from sandy and muddy sediments in Hillsborough Bay during 1986. The summer-mud SOD rate of 0.23 g 02/m²/hr was roughly twice the summer-sand, winter-sand and winter-mud SOD rates. In general, nutrient flux rates into the water column were usually greater from mud relative to sand, and during the summer compared to the winter. Reservations in the application of the SOD/NER data and recommendations for future SOD/NER measurements are discussed.

The final product is a detailed restoration and management plan for three minor tributaries in the Tampa Bay watershed and one general application. It is the intent of the Council to implement all elements of the four plans wherever feasible during Developments of Regional Impact (DRI's) and Intergovernmental Coordination and Review (IC&R) reviews and through coordinat.ion with the DNR gill-net license fee habitat restoration program, as well as local government initiatives. The efforts of the Council's Agency on Bay Management will also be critical in implementing the findings and recommendations of this project.
