Transportation safety in Indonesia reflects its culture and modernity, but the high rate of traffic accidents indicates significant challenges. Data from IRSMS and Polda Metro Jaya reveal an increase in accidents and traffic violations, reinforcing the need for effective law enforcement. In this paper, we introduce a novel automated and high-precision acoustic emission (AE) monitoring algorithm and the software SIMORGH, which is suitable for structural health monitoring (SHM) of civil structures. Initially developed for laboratory-scale hydraulic fracture monitoring, this core software has been effectively scaled up to meter-level applications and is compatible with heterogeneous media such as concrete. It is designed to work with various standard data formats and is handles both trigger-based and continuous data. Reinforced concrete systems are in many sectors of infrastructure. Due to a combination of elevated compressive strength from the cement and aggregates and tensile strength from the reinforcing steel, reinforced systems are favorable in construction applications where high strength is desired. However, while reinforced concrete is in service, it can be introduced to contaminants that cause corrosion. Contaminants can leach through the porous matrix of the concrete structure and influence initiation of corrosion products on reinforcement. To fly an unmanned aircraft system (UAS), commonly referred to as a “drone,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires pilots to pass a knowledge test. There is no requirement at the state or federal level for drone operators to demonstrate the ability to operate a UAS. The National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) has created an exam for public and private entities to assess basic UAS flight proficiency. Misdiagnoses in childhood can lead to significant obstacles in the aviation industry's medical certification process, posing unique hurdles for aspiring pilots. The study examines the current FAA guidelines and procedures for medical certification, particularly the evaluation requirements for individuals with ADHD. This study examined the effectiveness of using virtual reality training environments for procedural training in fourth-generation airliners. Its goal was to assess whether the training outcomes from a recurrent training course for FAA certificated Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) technicians, which used a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) to deliver and assess training, differed from the same training delivered using a Virtual Reality (VR) device.

This dissertation presents the outcome of a study of the dynamic soil-structure interaction response of tapered wood utility poles embedded in various foundation soils subject to quasi-static and dynamic wind loads. The study includes the effects of nonlinear soil behavior with varying quantities of moisture and nonlinear cable tension loads on a class H1 wood pole. The natural frequency response of the pole is determined using a finite element formulation. The first part of this thesis addresses a prevalent problem in power distribution networks: the accurate identification of load phases. This study develops a data-driven model leveraging consumption measurements from smart meters and corresponding substation data to reconstruct topology information in low-voltage distribution networks. Since the closure of mining activities in 2003, the coal basin of Gardanne in South-East France has experienced thousands of small-magnitude earthquake events, mostly triggered by the flooding of mine workings. Transportation departments have made significant strides in addressing the challenges posed by the increasing weights of trucks on bridges. While there is a growing awareness of overheight vehicle collisions with bridges, implementing effective countermeasures remains limited. The susceptibility of bridges to damage from such collisions is on the rise, further exacerbated by unpredictable lateral impact forces. This study employs nonlinear impact analysis to assess the response of an unprotected vehicle-girder model, yielding realistic deformation outcomes comparable to observed impacts on the US-61 bridge. With this health threat, we are working to help the building science community develop simplified tools that may be used to estimate impacts to large numbers of homes based on high-level housing characteristics.
