Enhanced Magnetism In Field-Cooled [Ni80fe20/Mn]3 Multilayers Studied Using Polarized Neutron Reflectometry, W Uilhoorn, S J. Callori, David L. Cortie, Hui-Chia Su, Y Khaydukov, Ko-Wei Lin, Frank Klose

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Here, the interfacial magnetic coupling in an exchange biased [Ni80Fe20/Mn]3 multilayer system has been studied using polarized neutron re ectometry. Previous results on this system indicate the importance of the coupling between the Fe-Mn and Ni-Mn orbitals at the layer interfaces. Magnetic depth profiles of the multilayer were measured at low temperatures under field-cooled and zero-field-cooled conditions. While no definitive interfacial state was found, a magnetic moment enhancement of roughly 20-30% in the applied field direction was observed throughout the bulk of the NiFe layers in the field-cooled state as compared to the zero-field-cooled measurements. The origin of this enhancement …

Ferroelectric And Magnetic Properties Of Aurivillius Bim+1ti3fem−3o3m+3 Thin Films, Tingting Jia, Hideo Kimura, Zhenxiang Cheng, Hongyang Zhao

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Aurivillius Bim+1Ti3Fem−3O3m+3 (m = 4, 5, 6) thin films have been deposited by a pulsed laser deposition system. The x-ray diffraction patterns indicate the formation of orthorhombic phase. The remanent polarization (2Pr) of Bim+1Ti3Fem−3O3m+3 thin films is decreased with the m-number. Positive-up-negative-down measurements indicate the presence of ferroelectric (FE) polarization in as-obtained thin films. Piezoresponse force microscopy investigations confirm the existence of FE domains and the switchable polarization. Weak magnetic moment is detected in the Aurivillius films at room temperature. The present work …

3d Fe2(Moo4)3 Microspheres With Nanosheet Constituents As High-Capacity Anode Materials For Lithium-Ion Batteries, Hao Zheng, Shiqiang Wang, Jiazhao Wang, Jun Wang, Lin Li, Yun Yang, Chuanqi Feng, Ziqi Sun Jan 2015

3d Fe2(Moo4)3 Microspheres With Nanosheet Constituents As High-Capacity Anode Materials For Lithium-Ion Batteries, Hao Zheng, Shiqiang Wang, Jiazhao Wang, Jun Wang, Lin Li, Yun Yang, Chuanqi Feng, Ziqi Sun

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Three-dimensional (3D) Fe2(MoO4)3 microspheres with ultrathin nanosheet constituents are first synthesized as anode materials for the lithium-ion battery. It is interesting that the single-crystalline nanosheets allow rapid electron/ion transport on the inside, and the high porosity ensures fast diffusion of liquid electrolyte in energy storage applications. The electrochemical properties of Fe2(MoO4)3 as anode demonstrates that 3D Fe2(MoO4)3 microspheres deliver an initial capacity of 1855 mAh/g at a current density of 100 mA/g. Particularly, when the current density is increased to 800 mA/g, the reversible capacity of Fe2(MoO4)3 anode still arrived at 456 mAh/g over 50 cycles. The large and reversible …

In-Arrears Interest Rate Derivatives Under The 3/2 Model, Joanna M. Goard Jan 2015

In-Arrears Interest Rate Derivatives Under The 3/2 Model, Joanna M. Goard

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Lie symmetry methods are used to find a closed form solution for in-arrears swaps under the 3/2 model ( ( ) ) ˆ 3 dr = r A t −α r dt + cr 2dZ . As well, approximate solutions are found for short-tenor inarrears caplets and floorlets under the same interest rate model. Comparisons are made of the approximate option values with those obtained with a computationally-intensive numerical scheme. The approximate pricing is found to be substantially fast easy to implement, while the relative errors with respect to the “true” prices are very small.

On The Uniqueness Of Lp-Minkowski Problems: The Constant P-Curvature Case In R^3, Yong Huang, Jiakun Liu, Lu Xu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

We study the C4 smooth convex bodies K ⊂Rn+1 satisfying K(x) =u(x)1−p, where x ∈Sn, K is the Gauss curvature of ∂K, u is the support function of K, and p is a constant. In the case of n =2, either when p ∈[−1, 0] or when p ∈(0, 1) in addition to a pinching condition, we show that K must be the unit ball. This partially answers a conjecture of Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang about the uniqueness of the Lp-Minkowski problem in R3. Moreover, we give an explicit pinching constant depending only on p when p ∈(0, 1).

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

For practical application, the functional piezoelectric film in microelectromechanical systems should meet the requirement of physical properties, as well as the mechanical properties. In this article, 0.5Ba(Ti0.8Zr0.2)O3-0.5(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3 (0.5BZT-0.5BCT) thin films with varied properties were prepared on (100) Si substrates via a sol-gel technique at different annealing temperatures. The effects of the annealing temperature on the morphology, piezoelectricity, hardness, and elastic modulus were studied. Particular attention was paid to the surface frictional behavior of films, and the changes in the friction force can be radically explained in terms of differences in the hardness/elastic modulus ratio and the residual stress of films. …

Structural Evolution Of Electrodes In The Ncr And Cgr Cathode-Containing Commercial Lithium-Ion Batteries Cycled Between 3.0 And 4.5 V: An Operando Neutron Powder-Diffraction Study, Wei Kong Pang, Moshiul Alam, Vanessa K. Peterson, Neeraj Sharma Jan 2015

Structural Evolution Of Electrodes In The Ncr And Cgr Cathode-Containing Commercial Lithium-Ion Batteries Cycled Between 3.0 And 4.5 V: An Operando Neutron Powder-Diffraction Study, Wei Kong Pang, Moshiul Alam, Vanessa K. Peterson, Neeraj Sharma

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The dissimilar lattice-evolution of the isostructural layered Li(Ni,Co,Al)O2 (NCR) and Li(Ni,Co,Mn)O2 (CGR) cathodes in commercial lithium-ion batteries during overcharging/discharging was examined using operando neutron powder-diffraction. The stacking axis (c parameter) of both cathodes expands on initial lithiation and contracts on further lithiation. Although both the initial increase and later decrease are smaller for the CGR cathode, the overall change between battery charged and discharged states of the c parameter is larger for the CGR (1.29%) than for the NCR cathode (0.33%). We find these differences are correlated to the transition metal to oxygen bond (as measured through …

Terahertz Probes Of Magnetic Field Induced Spin Reorientation In Yfeo 3 Single Crystal, Xian Lin, Junjie Jiang, Zuanming Jin, Dongyang Wang, Zhen Tian, Jiaguang Han, Zhenxiang Cheng, Guohong Ma

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Using the terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, we demonstrate the spin reorientation of a canted antiferromagnetic YFeO3 single crystal, by evaluating the temperature and magnetic field dependence of resonant frequency and amplitude for the quasi-ferromagnetic (FM) and quasi-antiferromagnetic modes (AFM), a deeper insight into the dynamics of spin reorientation in rare-earth orthoferrites is established. Due to the absence of 4f-electrons in Y ion, the spin reorientation of Fe sublattices can only be induced by the applied magnetic field, rather than temperature. In agreement with the theoretical predication, the frequency of FM mode decreases with magnetic field. In addition, an …

Delocalized Surface State In Epitaxial Si(111) Film With Spontaneous √3 X √3 Superstructure, Jian Chen, Yi Du, Zhi Li, Wenbin Li, Baojie Feng, Jinlan Qiu, Peng Cheng, S X. Dou, Lan Chen, Ke-Hui Wu Jan 2015

Delocalized Surface State In Epitaxial Si(111) Film With Spontaneous √3 X √3 Superstructure, Jian Chen, Yi Du, Zhi Li, Wenbin Li, Baojie Feng, Jinlan Qiu, Peng Cheng, S X. Dou, Lan Chen, Ke-Hui Wu

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The " multilayer silicene" films were grown on Ag(111), with increasing thickness above 30 monolayers (ML). Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) observations suggest that the " multilayer silicene" is indeed a bulk-like Si(111) film with a (√ 3 x √ 3)R30° honeycomb superstructure on surface. The possibility for formation of Si(111)(√ 3 x √ 3)R30°-Ag reconstruction on the surface can be distinctively ruled out by peeling off the surface layer with the STM tip. On this surface, delocalized surface state as well as linear energy-momentum dispersion was observed from quasiparticle interference patterns. Our results indicate that a bulklike silicon film with …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

We have investigated the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of A-site-ordered double-perovskitestructured oxides, AA'3B4O12 (A = Na, Ca, and La) with Mn and V at A' and B sites, respectively, using firstprinciple calculations based on the density functional theory. Our calculation results show that the antiferromagnetic phase is the ground state for all the compounds. By changing the A-site ions from Na+ to Ca2+ and then to La3+, the transfer of charge between Mn and O ions was changed from 1.56 to 1.55 and then to 1.50, and that between the …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

An easy, scalable and environmentally benign chemical method has been developed to synthesize micro strings of graphitic-C3N4 (msg-C3N4) through pre-treatment of melamine with HNO 3 in alkaline solvent at low temperature. This methodology results in a unique string type morphology of msg-C3N4 with higher surface area. These msg-C3N4 micro strings were used as a photocatalyst under visible light for photodegradation of rhodamine B, methyl blue and methyl orange. The msg-C3N4 shows enhanced photodegradation efficiency due to its high surface area and favourable bandgap. The first order rate constant for msg-C3N4 was measured which confirms the higher performance of msg-C3N4 in …

The hydrostatic piezoelectric properties of [011] poled Pb(Mg 1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) crystals and corresponding 2-2 crystal/epoxy composites were investigated. The crystal volume ratio and compositional dependencies of the hydrostatic charge and voltage coefficients (dh and gh) and hydrostatic figure of merit (FOM) dh x gh were determined, where large FOM value of 3.2 pm2/N with high stability as a function of hydrostatic pressure was achieved for rhombohedral crystal composites. In addition, the stress amplification effects of the face-plate and different epoxy matrixes were investigated, with maximum FOM value being on the order of 92 pm2/N, indicating that 2-2 crystal/epoxy composites are …

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Voltage unbalance (VU) management in power systems essentially involves two major aspects: VU emission allocation at the pre-connection stage and compliance assessment at the post-connection stage of installations. This is a summary and a review paper on the recent investigations completed in relation to VU emission assessment techniques which provide further contributions to the improvement of IEC Technical Report IEC/TR61000-3-13:2008. Generalised approaches developed for the classification of different sources of unbalance at the point of evaluation (covering both radial and interconnected networks) and the evaluation of their individual contributions giving emphasis to the discrimination between customer and network responsibility on …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

The microstructural origin of the exceptionally high piezoelectric response of polycrystalline 0.5Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3-0.5(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3 is investigated using in situ transmission electron microscopy, in addition to a wide variety of bulk measurements and first-principles calculations. A direct correlation is established relating a domain wall-free state to the ultrahigh piezoelectric d33 coefficient in this BaTiO3-based composition. The results suggest that the unique single-domain state formed during electrical poling is a result of a structural transition from coexistent rhombohedral and tetragonal phases to an orthorhombic phase that has an anomalously low elastic modulus. First-principles calculations indicate that incorporating Ca2+ and Zr4+ into BaTiO3 reduces the …

3-Dimensional (3d) Fabricated Polymer Based Drug Delivery Systems, Simon Moulton, Gordon G. Wallace

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Drug delivery from 3-dimensional (3D) structures is a rapidly growing area of research. It is essential to achieve structures wherein drug stability is ensured, the drug loading capacity is appropriate and the desired controlled release profile can be attained. Attention must also be paid to the development of appropriate fabrication machinery that allows 3D drug delivery systems (DDS) to be produced in a simple, reliable and reproducible manner. The range of fabrication methods currently being used to form 3D DDSs include electrospinning (solution and melt), wet-spinning and printing (3-dimensional). The use of these techniques enables production of DDSs from the …

Australian Institute for Innovative Materials - Papers

Domain wall motion was directly observed at temperatures near to the monoclinic-to-tetragonal phase transition temperature (TM-T) in [001]-oriented 0.23Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-0. 42Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.35PbTiO3 (0.23PIN-0.42PMN-0.35PT) single crystals using a polarizing light microscope, and evident 90°and 180°domain switches were observed near the Curie temperature (TC). Two dielectric loss anomalies were observed at temperatures near TM-T in the [001]-oriented PIN-PMN-PT single crystals, while an additional dielectric loss peak was found at temperatures a few degrees below TC, which was associated with domain wall motion. Based on the domain structure observations, a domain switching mechanism was proposed to explain the novel dielectric loss peak at several degrees …

A Three-Phase Power Flow Approach For Integrated 3-Wire Mv And 4-Wire Multigrounded Lv Networks With Rooftop Solar Pv, Md J E Alam, K M. Muttaqi, Darmawan Sutanto

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

With increasing level of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) penetration into low voltage (LV) distribution networks, analysis with realistic network models is necessary for adequate capturing of network behavior. Traditional three-phase 3-wire power flow approach lacks the capability of exact analysis of 4-wire multigrounded LV networks due to the approximation of merging the neutral wire admittance into the phase wire admittances. Such an approximation may not be desirable when neutral wire and grounding effects need to be assessed, especially in the presence of single-phase solar power injection that may cause a significant level of network unbalance. This paper proposes a three-phase …

A Simple Model To Extend 1-D Hydraulics To 3-D Hydraulics, Shu-Qing Yang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

the core of fluid mechanics is the study of friction on a solid/liquid interface, the friction force can be divided into skin friction and form drag. Nikuradse's experiments reveal that the friction factor depends on the Reynolds number (Re) and relative roughness (r), this observation implies the co-existence of skin friction and form drag, but the definitions of Re and r given by Nikuradse cannot be linked with the skin friction and form drag, this leads to the invalidity of existing theory to predict the friction factor in a complex flow, like a channel flow with vegetation. To establish a …

Studies Of The Surface Reaction Mechanisms Of Pb-3 Wt%Sn-0.5 Wt%Ag Anode In Cro3 Solutions, Jianzhong Li, Xiuli Sun, Yanwen Tian, Yue Zhao

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This work examines the change of surface properties and the reaction process of lead alloy anode in CrO3 solution under conditions of high current density, by means of SEM, EDX, XRD, electrochemical test and Raman spectroscopy, for understanding the corrosion mechanism of lead alloy anode. In the initial oxidation stage of lead alloy anode, the diffraction peaks of monoclinic PbCrO4 and PbO are clearly shown in the XRD spectrum of the lead alloy surface. With increasing reaction time, PbCrO4 and PbO diffraction peaks are weakened and those of lead dioxide strengthened. Cyclic voltammetry reveals that the electrode potential change is …

In the present work, the decomposition behaviour of NaZn(BH4)3 nanoconfined in mesoporous SBA-15 has been investigated in detail and compared to bulk NaZn(BH4)3 that was ball milled with SBA-15, but not nanoconfined. The successful incorporation of nanoconfined NaZn(BH4)3 into mesopores of SBA-15 was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, 11B nuclear magnetic resonance, nitrogen absorption/desorption isotherms, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements. It is demonstrated that the dehydrogenation of the space-confined NaZn(BH4)3 is free of emission of boric by-products, and significantly improved hydrogen release kinetics is also achieved, with pure hydrogen release at temperatures …

When phase shifting profilometry (PSP) is emplyed for 3-D shape measurement, the object must be kept static during the projection and acquisition of the multiple fringe patterns. Errors will occur when the object moves and if the projection and capture of fringe patterns are not fast enough. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to tackle the problem, consisting of two steps. Firstly, the rotation matrix and translation vector describing the movement of the object are estimated using a set of marks placing on the surface of the object. Then the expressions of the fringe patterns under the influence …

The International Electrotechnical Committee Technical Report IEC 61000-3-15:2011 provides electromagnetic compatibility requirements and test conditions for distributed generators up to 75 A per phase. In the current research, two commercially available photovoltaic (PV) inverters up to the capacity of 3600 W were tested following the guidelines proposed in IEC 61000-3-15 in relation to low order harmonic emission and flicker emission. In addition, the harmonic and flicker emission behaviour of the PV inverters were investigated under varying irradiation conditions. Both PV inverters were observed to comply with the emission requirements prescribed by the technical report under most conditions except for even …
