Discrete Cosine Transform Based Shift Estimation For Fringe Pattern Profilometry Using Generalized Analysis Model, Jose F. Chicharo, Jiangtao Xi, Yingsong Hu, Zongkai Yang, Enbang Li

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

This paper presents a new analysis algorithm to carry out profile measure- ment with low computational complexity and less noise-sensitivity. Firstly, a discrete cosine transform (DCT) based representation method is introduced to express the height distribution of the three-dimensional surface. Then, a novel shift estimation algorithm, called DCT based shift estimation (DCT-SE) is presented to reconstruct three-dimensional object surfaces by using the proposed expression and the generalized analysis model. The advantage of DCT-SE is that without loss of measurement precise it provides lower computational complexity to implement three-dimensional reconstruction from distorted fringe patterns and at the same time survives from …

General Methodology For Analysis And Modeling Of Trust Relationships In Distributed Computing, Weiliang Zhao, Vijay Varadharajan, George Bryan Jan 2006

General Methodology For Analysis And Modeling Of Trust Relationships In Distributed Computing, Weiliang Zhao, Vijay Varadharajan, George Bryan

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

In this paper, we discuss a general methodology for analysis and modeling of trust relationships in distributed computing. We discuss the classification of trust relationships, categorize trust relationships into two layers and provide a hierarchy of trust relationships based on a formal definition of trust relationship. We provide guidelines for the analysis and modeling of trust relationships. We review operations on trust relationships and relative types of trust relationships in our previous work. We provide a set of definitions for the properties of direction and symmetry of trust relationships. In order to analyze and model the scope and diversity of …

Gait Analysis Of Low-Cost Flexible-Shank Transtibial Prostheses, Winson Lee, Ming Zhang, Peggy Chan, David A. Boone Jan 2006

Gait Analysis Of Low-Cost Flexible-Shank Transtibial Prostheses, Winson Lee, Ming Zhang, Peggy Chan, David A. Boone

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The latest lower-limb prosthetic designs have been incorporated with dynamic elastic response (DER) components to enhance prosthesis flexibility, which are suggested to be beneficial to gait. Although DER prosthetic. feet are preferred by most transtibial amputees and their benefits to gait are supported by some biomechanical studies, many are still utilizing the simple conventional solid ankle cushioned heel (SACH) designs because of the lower cost. The monolimb, a transtibial prosthesis with the socket and the shank molded from a single piece of thermoplastic material, perhaps is an alternative to DER feet for providing flexibility at the shank. In addition to …

Explicit Dynamic Fem Analysis Of Multipass Vertical-Horizontal Rolling, Hai-Liang Yu, Xiang-Hua Liu, Xian-Ming Zhao, Di Wu, Y Kusaba Jan 2006

Explicit Dynamic Fem Analysis Of Multipass Vertical-Horizontal Rolling, Hai-Liang Yu, Xiang-Hua Liu, Xian-Ming Zhao, Di Wu, Y Kusaba

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Three passes of plate rolling during vertical-horizontal rolling process are simulated with explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method. The equivalent strain and stress fields, and shape change at the head and tail of slab during rolling are obtained. The calculated result of the shape at the head and tail of slab is in good agreement with the measured one. The explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method can be used effectively to analyze the multipass vertical-horizontal (V-H) rolling process. © 2006 Central Iron and Steel Research Institute.

Assessment Of Spatial Analysis Techniques For Estimating Impervious Cover, Steven Roso, Michael J. Boyd, Laurie A. Chisholm Jan 2006

Assessment Of Spatial Analysis Techniques For Estimating Impervious Cover, Steven Roso, Michael J. Boyd, Laurie A. Chisholm

Faculty of Engineering - Papers (Archive)

Impervious cover proportion is recognised as an important parameter in hydrologic modelling. Recent advances in the spatial sciences provide new capabilities for estimation of this value. This paper describes an assessment of seven estimation techniques, including human and computer based methods requiring a range of different input data and skill levels. In order to quantify the value of any gain in accuracy, the results from each method were applied to a real catchment using event based (WBNM) and continuous simulation (MUSIC) hydrologic models. The results showed that use of high resolution satellite imagery enabled the most accurate measurements of impervious …
