Petri Net Modeling And Performance Analysis Of Can Fieldbus, Ji-Qiong Zhou May 1998

Petri Net Modeling And Performance Analysis Of Can Fieldbus, Ji-Qiong Zhou

Theses

The CAN FB (Controller Area Network FieldBus) has been in existence for ten years. It supports automated manufacturing and process control environments to interconnect intelligent devices such as valves, sensors, and actuators. CAN FieldBus has a high bit rate and the ability to detect errors. It is immune to noise and resistant to shock, vibration, and heat. Two recently introduced mechanisms, Distributed Priority Queue (DPQ) and Priority Promotion (PP) enable CAN FieldBus networks to share out the system bandwidth and grant ail upper bound on the transmission times so as to meet the requirements in real-time communications. Modeling and analysis …

Measuring The Need For Manufacturing Flexibility And Evaluating Its Economic Benefits, Navin Karwande Jan 1997

Measuring The Need For Manufacturing Flexibility And Evaluating Its Economic Benefits, Navin Karwande

Theses

Flexible systems are known of enabling organizations to take advantage of diversified products, low volume production items with short life-cycles. They also improve the ability to respond to market changes. Flexibility has thus become a strategic manufacturing need in recent years.

Because of the high initial capital outlay involved, the selection of the appropriate flexible solution has become a critical issue. This thesis proposes a methodology to determine the most cost effective and feasible flexibility strategy. A flexibility audit is developed to analyze and evaluate the changes taking place in a facility's environment. These changes and a measurement scheme is …

Scheduling Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems With Automated Guided Vehicles Using Petri Net Models, Hua-Sheng Chiu Jan 1995

Scheduling Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems With Automated Guided Vehicles Using Petri Net Models, Hua-Sheng Chiu

Theses

In this thesis, Petri net models for Flexible Manufacturing Systems (EMS) are constructed. A firing sequence of the Petri net from the initial marking to the final marking can be seen as a schedule of the modeled FMS. By using the branch-and-bound algorithm, an optimal schedule of the FMS can be obtained.

Automated Guided Vehicle Systems (AGVS) are increasingly used for material handling in factories and warehouses. An AGVS can reduce labor costs and is ready to be integrated into an automated factory. This thesis presents two AGVS models (shared and duty) which integrate the control of AGVS with the …

Design Of A Material Handling System For The Automatic Assembly Of A Shower Head, Irshad Meherally May 1992

Design Of A Material Handling System For The Automatic Assembly Of A Shower Head, Irshad Meherally

Theses

The design of a Material Handling System for the Shower Head assembly is proposed. The working principle of complete automation and individual workstation is presented using "I-DEAS" software. Alternative equipments and their usage in the automation of the assembly is also proposed. Custom made fixtures, workcarriers, orienters, magazines, part feeders are designed for the assembly. Analysis of design for assembly in terms of cost and efficiency is performed by generating a Coding System Technique.

Task Scheduling For Fms Based On Genetic Algorithm, Hung-Yuan Li May 1991

Task Scheduling For Fms Based On Genetic Algorithm, Hung-Yuan Li

Theses

A Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) consisting of p automated guided vehicles (AGV's), m workstations and n tasks is studied. The main problem investigated in this thesis is to find an optimal or suboptimal task scheduling for p AGV's among m workstations to complete n tasks.

An efficient approach based on genetic algorithms has been designed and implemented to solve the problem of task scheduling for a FMS. Near-optimal, or even optimal, task scheduling is accomplished by genetic algorithms. Simulation results on the algorithm are also discussed.

Petri Net Modeling And Analysis Of An Fms Cell, Paresh A. Patel May 1991

Petri Net Modeling And Analysis Of An Fms Cell, Paresh A. Patel

Theses

Petri nets have evolved into a powerful tool for the modeling, analysis and design of asynchronous, concurrent systems. This thesis presents the modeling and analysis of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) cell using Petri nets. In order to improve the productivity of such systems, the building of mathematical models is a crucial step.

In this thesis, the theory and application of Petri nets are presented with emphasis on their application to the modeling and analysis of practical automated manufacturing systems. The theory of Petri nets includes their basic notation and properties. In order to illustrate how a Petri net with …

Some Aspects Of Integration Of Classification, Computer Aided Design, Process Planning, And Scheduling Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Suresh Godavari Jan 1991

Some Aspects Of Integration Of Classification, Computer Aided Design, Process Planning, And Scheduling Of Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Suresh Godavari

Theses

This work deals with the role, problems and solution technique for integration of Computer Assisted Design, Classification, Process Planning, and Scheduling for a Flexible Manufacturing System. A lark spectrum of rotational and prismatic parts are considered.

A Knowledge-based rough classification and coding system [C&C] has been developed for coding similar parts using a Group Technology [GT] technique. In this module VP-EXPERT and DBase III Plus are used as expert system and database respectively. This module interfaces with a database for the retrieval and selection process.

The code obtained from the C&C system is the basis for the succeeding phases. The …
