Modelling And Simulation Of The Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt (Miab) Process For Transmission Pipeline Applications, John Norrish, Dominic Cuiuri, Mohammad Hossain Dec 2015

Modelling And Simulation Of The Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt (Miab) Process For Transmission Pipeline Applications, John Norrish, Dominic Cuiuri, Mohammad Hossain

Dominic Cuiuri

Early patents for the Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt process (MIAB) date back to 1940 [1] and the basic principles of the process have remained unchanged from this time. The process was however refined in the 1970s for use in the production of automotive components and has been used extensively in this area. Investigation of the process for pipe girth welding have been reported and commercial pipe welding heads are reported to be available in the Ukraine [2], Although the process is well established it is believed that a more fundamental analysis of the mechanisms involved would assist in the optimisation …

Patient-Centered Appointment Scheduling Using Agent-Based Simulation, Tammy Toscos, Ayten Turkcan, Brad Doebbeling Dec 2015

Patient-Centered Appointment Scheduling Using Agent-Based Simulation, Tammy Toscos, Ayten Turkcan, Brad Doebbeling

Tammy R Toscos

Enhanced access and continuity are key components of patient-centered care. Existing studies show that several interventions such as providing same day appointments, walk-in services, after-hours care, and group appointments, have been used to redesign the healthcare systems for improved access to primary care. However, an intervention focusing on a single component of care delivery (i.e. improving access to acute care) might have a negative impact other components of the system (i.e. reduced continuity of care for chronic patients). Therefore, primary care clinics should consider implementing multiple interventions tailored for their patient population needs. We collected rapid ethnography and observations to …

Simamph: An Agent-Based Simulation Model For Exploring The Use Of Psychostimulants And Related Harm Amongst Young Australians, Pascal Perez, Anne Dray, David Moore, Paul Dietze, Gabriele Bammer, Rebecca Jenkinson, Christine Siokou, Rachael Green, Susan Hudson, Lisa Maher Nov 2012

Simamph: An Agent-Based Simulation Model For Exploring The Use Of Psychostimulants And Related Harm Amongst Young Australians, Pascal Perez, Anne Dray, David Moore, Paul Dietze, Gabriele Bammer, Rebecca Jenkinson, Christine Siokou, Rachael Green, Susan Hudson, Lisa Maher

Professor Pascal Perez

Background: Computer simulations provide a useful tool for bringing together diverse sources of information in order to increase understanding of the complex aetiology of drug use and related harm, and to inform the development of effective policies. In this paper, we describe SimAmph, an agent-based simulation model for exploring how individual perceptions, peer influences and subcultural settings shape the use of psychostimulants and related harm amongst young Australians. Methods: We present the conceptual architecture underpinning SimAmph, the assumptions we made in building it, the outcomes of sensitivity analysis of key model parameters and the results obtained when we modelled a …

Background Agent-based simulation models can be used to explore the impact of policy and practice on drug use and related consequences. In a linked paper (Perez et al., 2011), we described SimAmph, an agent-based simulation model for exploring the use of psychostimulants and related harm amongst young Australians. Methods In this paper, we use the model to simulate the impact of two policy scenarios on engagement in drug use and experience of drug-related harm: (i) the use of passive-alert detection (PAD) dogs by police at public venues and (ii) the introduction of a mass-media drug prevention campaign. Results The findings …

Simulation-Based Evaluation Of Port Evacuation Plans For Predictable Natural Disasters, Xiuli Qu, Maurice Jackson, Lauren Davis Dec 2011

Simulation-Based Evaluation Of Port Evacuation Plans For Predictable Natural Disasters, Xiuli Qu, Maurice Jackson, Lauren Davis

Dr. Lauren B Davis

Effective port emergency evacuation could reduce the potential damages and losses caused by a predictive natural disaster. Thus, most U.S. ports have evacuation plans or guidelines established for predictive natural disasters, especially hurricanes. However, hurricane Katrina still revealed that these existing emergency evacuation plans may not be as effective as originally expected. The objective of this study is to provide a quantitative approach to evaluating the effectiveness of port emergency evacuation plans for hurricanes. A discrete-event simulation model is developed in this study to capture the dynamic evacuation process in a complex port environment when a hurricane approaches a port. …

Le Diagnostic Automatique Des Anomalies Des Systèmes Electromécaniques, Boukhemis Chetate Dec 1996

Le Diagnostic Automatique Des Anomalies Des Systèmes Electromécaniques, Boukhemis Chetate

Boukhemis Chetate
