A Survey Of Playgrounds And Playground Equipment In The Elementary Schools Of New Mexico, Richard V. Traylor

The purpose of this study is to determine what types of playgrounds and playground equipment are being used in the elementary schools of New Mexico and to compare and evaluate the size, placement, and serviceability of these facilities according to standards set forth by the National Recreation Association and other authorities.
This study is largely concerned with information and material gathered from the elementary schools in municipal systems within this state, but information from two independent rural schools will be used. Private and parochial schools will not be considered in this study.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the two series of reports for the 1948-49 from forty-one member high schools of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in the state of New Mexico and to present such conclusions and recommendations for the programs of those schools as warranted by the data presented. The reports upon which this study is based include (1) Special Report on Criterion I (Form A-3) to the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and (2) Annual General Report on Criteria (Form A-2, 1948-49).

It is the purpose of this thesis (1) to ascertain the expenditures made by students in connection with their high school attendance in New Mexico; (2) to discover in what areas of the curriculum or extra-curriculum major costs may exist; (3) to learn the amount of income the high school students in New Mexico earn; and (4) to draw pertinent conclusions and make constructive recommendations from the data.

The purpose of this study is two-fold: (1) to ascertain with what degree of accuracy pupils of junior and senior level in a selected high school are able to estimate quantitative measurements; and (2) to determine whether or not the ability to make accurate estimates is related to such factors as mental ability, computational ability, or the amount of formal mathematics taken in high school.

The purpose of this study is to discover information which may contribute to a better understanding of the value of application photographs for prospective teaching positions. Specifically, this study is concerned with the following aspects: (1) the extent to which superintendents of schools use photographs in teacher selection; (2) the influence in which three physical characteristics, namely, size, contrast, and expression, may have upon teacher selection; and (3) the value which the superintendent of schools places on the photograph as an instrument of teacher selection.

Statement of the problem. The history of the public schools of New Mexico like those of the nation can, to an extent, be traced through the opinions offered by the attorneys-general. A total of 710 opinions have been written concerning the public schools and education since the first report of the attorney-general in 1898. No segmentation and study of only those opinions directly affecting the schools and education has ever been made, those opinions omitted being repetitive of questions already discussed.

The success of a democracy is conditioned by, if not, dependent upon, the success of education in that democracy. If a democracy is to be successful its members must be qualified by education to assume intelligently their duties and right in a democratic society. Because of this qualification every member of that society must be provided the opportunity for an education which will fit him for membership in a democracy. It is the purpose of this study to present an evaluation of the public school system of Estancia, New Mexico, by means of a statement of existing conditions found to be true by a complete and unbiased examination of all phases of the educational program, the school plant, and the school records. Comparisons are made with conditions which have existed in this school in the past and with existing conditions in New Mexico.
