Student Assessment Selection Behavior Analysis Of Institutions Conducting Distance Education, Clayton W. Sammons

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis discovers issues universities use when deciding what types of exams will be used for distance education students. Many universities conduct distance education courses electronically but do not conduct the evaluation instruments electronically. Universities across the country, diversified by academic rankings, tuition, and student population were interviewed. Results generally revealed security concerns as the most prevalent reason for universities avoiding electronic exams. However, some universities have created evaluation methods to mitigate the security risks and perform electronic assessments such as projects or exams that are tailored to reduce the possibility of cheating. Examples of the tailored exam questions include …

Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) methodology was used to define tile existing processes. IDEFO (Integrated Computer Aided Manufacturing Definition Language) and Activity Based Costing techniques were used to map the flow of activities and to determine the costs for handling one education record. The cost for processing one education record averaged approximately $69.95. Under BPR, the functional expert team evaluates the existing processes to determine which processes are value-added and which are non-value added and generate …

The Projected Effects Of A Paperless Information System On The Productivity Of The Air Force Institute Of Technology Evaluations And Admissions Division, Richard A. Bihary, Roy C. Shrader Sep 1994

The Projected Effects Of A Paperless Information System On The Productivity Of The Air Force Institute Of Technology Evaluations And Admissions Division, Richard A. Bihary, Roy C. Shrader

Theses and Dissertations

The Air Force Institute of Technology Admissions/Registrar Directorate (AFIT/RR) has a need to improve and expand services using a smaller operating budget. One promising solution is to eliminate the paperwork required to perform the AFIT/RR functions. To assist AFIT/RR managers in evaluating alternatives, this thesis determines the nature and extent to which a paperless information system affects the productivity of the Air Force Institute of Technology Evaluations and Admissions Division (AFIT/RRE). The DoD definitions of productivity are used in this thesis. Based on these definitions, the hours per unit of work (HPU) is chosen as the measure of productivity. Baseline …

Implementation Of The Defense Business Operations Fund (Dbof) Policies And Unit Costing In The Air Force Institute Of Technology (Afit), Charles W. Leonard, Rafeal Martinez

Theses and Dissertations

This study examined the potential effects of the Defense Business Operations Fund (DBOF) policies on the graduate degree programs at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). The study examined the Defense Management Review document that provides the implementation and guidance information for DBOF, and Unit Cost. DBOF requires that organizations provide unit cost per output figures as the basis for organizational funding. Unit cost resourcing is expected to change the way federal managers control resources, and is intended to promote quality management practices. In order to achieve the research objective, the researchers surveyed the opinions of HQ AFMC's Graduate …

Development Of A Unit Cost Model For The Afit Pce Program, Darryl W. Walton, Jeffrey K. Young

Theses and Dissertations

This research focused on the development of a unit cost model for the Professional Continuing Education (PCE) program within the Air Force Institute of Technology's School of Systems and Logistics. The methodology employed follows that issued in the Unit Cost Resourcing Guidance developed by DoD and was limited to utilizing the accounting structure already in place. This model can be used primarily at the beginning of each planning cycle to determine the rate to charge customers for courses provided in the coming fiscal year. This model could also be used at the end of the fiscal year to compare the …

An Analysis Of Retention Rates And Demographics Of Graduates Of The Air Force Institute Of Technology, Christopher A. Beres, Marion G. Camacho Sep 1992

An Analysis Of Retention Rates And Demographics Of Graduates Of The Air Force Institute Of Technology, Christopher A. Beres, Marion G. Camacho

Theses and Dissertations

This study analyzes the retention rates and demographics of Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) graduates. The sample includes 5,071 Air Force officers graduating between 1973 and 1987. Actual retention rates of AFIT graduates are compared to retention rates of mission support officers provided by the Air Force Military Personnel Center. A proportional hazards regression analysis is performed to study the relationship between specific factors and a graduate's length of service after graduating from AFIT. The results of this analysis show that graduates of the School of Engineering (EN) are nearly two years younger, on average, than their counterparts in …
