Disability, Blackness, And Online Community: Black Twitter As Self-Narrative, Morgan S. Wilson

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Black disabled people, especially those with invisible disabilities, are often not included or welcomed by all in the disabled community. In addition, Black disabled individuals also face discrimination and exclusion within the Black community due to ableism. This project will be an investigation of Black disabled community and health culture in online spaces, specifically using Twitter hashtags as a starting point. This research project is about helping to write the whole story, an opportunity that my Black ancestors did not have but still demand, for our generation and those who will come after us. For this project, I conducted an …

The Effect Of Fatigue On Lower Extremity Joint Kinematics And Performance, Sarah Alloto Apr 2023

The Effect Of Fatigue On Lower Extremity Joint Kinematics And Performance, Sarah Alloto

Undergraduate Distinction Papers

Within recent years there has been an increase in the number of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries within female athletes (Learning how ACL, 2022). The ACL is a ligamentous structure within the knee that connects the femur and the tibia (Mayo, 2022). Its primary function is to provide stability, prevent the tibia from excessive anterior translation, and provide proprioceptive input for the lower limb (Mayo, 2022). ACL injuries are multifactorial in nature, meaning they can be the result of faulty biomechanics, individual genetic predisposition, or environmental factors (Alentorn- Geli et al., 2009). ACL injuries can be classified into two categories: …

Factors Influencing Hard Running Distances In Ncaa Division I Female Soccer Players, Isaac A. Sam Jan 2023

Factors Influencing Hard Running Distances In Ncaa Division I Female Soccer Players, Isaac A. Sam

Dissertations and Theses

As the total distances covered in soccer games have remained relatively constant, the hard running distances covered by players have shown varying changes due to the higher physical demands and dynamics of team running performances. Although factors affecting the total distances covered in a match are multifactorial, no study has specifically examined match performance indicators (MPI) that impact hard running distances (HRD). Consequently, the purpose of this study was to better understand how MPI (hard running efforts, turnovers, minutes played, duels won, duels lost, and pass completions) are associated with HRDs and to investigate how each variable contributes to HRDs …

Stress Management For Student-Athletes: Stress Levels And Mitigation Strategies For Athletes And Coaches At A Faith-Based University, Caleb Herman

Master of Education Program Theses

Research demonstrates that college is a stressful time of life, especially for student-athletes who are involved in both athletics and academics (Lopes Dos Santos et al., 2020). While research exists that proposes strategies for helping either students or athletes cope with the stress that they face, very little research specifically addresses the needs of student-athletes. The purpose of this study was to determine effective ways in which coaches can mitigate stress for student-athletes at faith-based universities. Through a measurement of the anxiety and depression levels that student-athletes at Dordt University experience, correlations were made between exhaustion levels, a reduced sense …

Compassion Fatigue In Registered Dietitians Who Treat Patients With Eating Disorders, Caryn Alyce Honig Jan 2019

Compassion Fatigue In Registered Dietitians Who Treat Patients With Eating Disorders, Caryn Alyce Honig

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Registered dietitians who treat patients with eating disorders may be at risk for developing compassion fatigue due to exposure to patients' chronic complications. Dietetic courses and programs do not comprise coping and resilience training, therefore, dietitians who work with these patients may need additional education. The purpose of this basic qualitative research study was to investigate the perceptions of practicing registered dietitians and dietetic educators on the risk of compassion fatigue, investigate ways to manage and prevent the development of compassion fatigue, and explore the possible need for professional education. Knowles's theory of andragogy provided the conceptual framework as perceptions …
