Using Multiple Methods To Explore Antiracist Practices In A Cross Institutional Online Community, Mark Diacopoulos, Amanda Burbage, Kristen H. Gregory, Mary F. Rice

Open Educational Resources - Teaching and Learning

In this chapter, four white, cis-gender, teacher-educators engaged in a multiple method, cross-institution online collaboration during the dual pandemic of Covid-19 and structural racism. Using a book club reading schedule, arts based responses, problem posing, and memory work, the authors examined their experiences and reactions to the pandemic and concurrent incidences of structural racism. Drawing inspiration from Robinson and Robinson’s (2022) Imagine If, followed by Kendi’s (2019, 2023) How to be Antiracist, the authors describe how their online collaboration influenced their understanding of their past, helped them to unpack considerations of present problems in their practice, and helped them consider …

Gender Inclusive Restrooms At Morehead State University, Stephanie Perry, Bernadette Barton, Constance Hardesty

2024 Celebration of Student Scholarship - Poster Presentations

While attending Morehead State University, we observed a lack of accessible all-gender restrooms for transgender and nonbinary people on our campus. We want to ensure that our campus cultivates an environment of inclusion for every student who attends the university. To make our initiative happen, we have been engaging with the community of our campus through conversations and the use of a petition. Our goal is to see inclusive restrooms spread over our campus, as well as a more inclusive environment for faculty staff and students. We hope to see this happen through advocating for getting nongender specific signs for …

Examining The Relationship Between Gender And Anxiety Levels, Lacey Estep, Monica Himes

2024 Celebration of Student Scholarship - Poster Presentations

Anxiety is a prevalent problem in our society, and it negatively affects many adults in the United States every year. The National Health Survey, which was conducted in 2019, found that 15.6% of adults experienced anxiety symptoms within the past two weeks of when the survey was given (Terlizzi & Villarroel, 2019). That means that approximately 1 in 6 adults aged 18 and over in the United States are experiencing psychological impairment. This large population of adult Americans experiencing anxiety raises the curiosity about the factors that play a role in anxiety, including whether or not gender has an effect …

Each thoughtful and personal essay explores firsthand what it means to remain in higher education, yet not in the traditional role of a professor. Topics include establishing new career paradigms, well-being and work-life balance, blended roles and identities, and professional work around advocacy and inclusion. Unifying the essays is the idea that career diversity is intertwined with other diversity discourse, yielding a broad-based but critical examination of …

Education and Policy Briefs

This research brief presents a study that explores one type of teacher residency program, bilingual teacher residencies (BTRs). The Center for Equity for English Learners at Loyola Marymount University (LMU CEEL) partnered with the Californians Dedication to Education Foundation (CDEF) to investigate BTRs participating in CDEF’s California Teacher Residency Lab (The Lab). To expand the knowledge base around bilingual teacher residencies and provide policy and practice recommendations, researchers conducted interviews with a sample of BTR grantee program leaders to capture and analyze their perspectives regarding BTRs based on their implementation phase and context.
