There are many factors that can contribute to teacher stress in a primary school classroom. The classroom experience can be examined through various aspects, including the particular types of students that make up the class. Teachers can experience stress at a variety of levels in response to certain situations in their classroom experience, such as the presence of students with suspected and/or diagnosed ADD/ADHD in the classroom. Previous research has argued that teaching these students can be more challenging than when teaching other students. This study examined factors related to teacher attrition. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the level of teacher satisfaction that could motivate a teacher to remain in the profession in a national sample could be predicted from selected factors. Furthermore, this study examined teachers’ perceptions of worry/stress based on student performance on state and/or local tests.

This study investigated the relationship between high-stakes testing and the stress levels of secondary teachers in Jackson’s Jackson Public School District. The independent variables of age, gender, subject taught, teaching experience, degree and school level were used to determine the differences of the various groups. A survey was piloted and used to determine teachers’ levels of stress. There was not a statistically significant difference between the stress levels of teachers who teach subjects that are measured by high-stakes testing and those who do not.
