Functional Analysis In Simulated Environments, Claire Donehower Paul, Jennifer Walker, Cathy Thomas, Matthew S. Taylor, Jamie Best, Morgan Diaz, Chad A. Rose, Eleazar Vasquez

The Journal of Special Education Apprenticeship

The need for highly effective and qualified special educators continues to be a national concern. One of the primary reasons why teachers leave the profession is a lack of effective behavior management skills. Learning how to assess challenging behavior and its causes through functional analysis is one method to enhance teacher skillset in this critical area. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of a simulation environment to train pre-service and in-service general and special education teachers to conduct functional analysis procedures with fidelity and compare those results to traditional didactic instruction. The results of the study …

Reviews of the literature have confirmed that Social StoriesTM can be an effective intervention for individuals with ASD. Recently, researchers have begun to investigate the presentation of Social StoriesTM using technology, with results suggesting that Social StoriesTM presented through technology are a promising avenue for practice and research. In this study, a multiple baseline across participants design was used with four male 7-9 year old students with ASD to determine whether an iPad- based Social StoryTM would decrease the number of teacher redirects required by the participants in order to attend to a group lesson. Effect sizes were calculated using …

Transitional Challenges In Technology Adoption Among Academic Communities In Indian Higher Education Institutions, Elangovan N, Guydeuk Yeon, Sebastian Perumbilly, Sarah Hormeila Awungshi

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Due to the lockdown and remote working practices, academic universities around the world have been forced to adopt new technology. Online courses and exams enabled the use of new applications. During the pandemic, innovative technological adoption became faster, overriding the usual diffusion time lag. The transition was so fast that it presented a slew of new challenges to India's academic communities. An open-ended online survey was used to gather data from faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff at higher educational institutions. Several concepts about transitional challenges emerged from the qualitative data analysis. The results revealed the significant commitment needed to …

The Technological Barriers Of Using Video Modeling In The Classroom, Desha Marino, Janice Myck-Wayne

The Journal of Special Education Apprenticeship

The purpose of this investigation is to identify the technological barriers teachers encounter when attempting to implement video modeling in the classroom. Video modeling is an emerging evidence-based intervention method used with individuals with autism. Research has shown the positive effects video modeling can have on its recipients. Educators working with individuals with autism have encountered numerous barriers when implementing video modeling as an intervention strategy. Therefore, this project attempts to discover potential barriers on the topic of video modeling and possible solutions to the problem.

Utilizing Technology To Enhance Reading Comprehension Within Mathematical Word Problems, Michele E. Conley Dec 2014

Utilizing Technology To Enhance Reading Comprehension Within Mathematical Word Problems, Michele E. Conley

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

Many students who are proficient with basic math facts struggle for understanding when it comes to word problems. Teachers time and time again teach and re-teach problem solving strategies in hope that their students will one day acquire all the skills necessary to become proficient in this area. Unfortunately understanding problem solving skills is not the only answer to solving word problems. There has been a significant amount of evidence linking reading comprehension to mathematical reasoning. The development of a website to assist teachers and students who are having difficulties with mathematical word problems is extremely beneficial. The website is …

Technological Literacy – Not Just You And Your Computer, Joseph Scarcella, Susan Daniels

Journal of Critical Issues in Educational Practice

One might argue that the word technology is one of the most misunderstood and misused terms in common usage today. Many believe technology to be synonymous with computers, the internet and other high-tech media. This is limited and short sighted view indeed! Technology encompasses both simple and complex artifacts used daily. Pencils, toothbrushes, zippers and toothpicks – not to mention Velcro (!) – for instance, are all examples of what might be considered relatively modern examples of technology. Often, the wonder of “everyday” invention is lost in our current notions of technology. Yet, it is an investigative inquiry into the …
