The Regression Of The Flood In Virginia, James C. Rakestraw, Jim Melnick Dec 2023

The Regression Of The Flood In Virginia, James C. Rakestraw, Jim Melnick

Proceedings of the International Conference on Creationism

The geology, tectonics, and hydraulics of the regression of the Flood formed much of the geomorphology of Virginia. Opportunities to view and study geology and geomorphology are available through visiting parks, traveling on public roads, and viewing geographic information system (GIS) resources.

Virginia is part of the North American Plate. A series of “blocks” of basement rocks within the plate underlie the geomorphological provinces of Virginia. These “blocks” form a series of steps between the Atlantic Ocean Basin and the Blue Ridge. The “Fall Line” found in Virginia is a fault between two blocks of basement rock. The basement rocks …

Length And Width To Estimate Dry Mass Of Panicum Maximum Cv. Tanzânia Leaves, L. G. Barioni, P. M. Santos, A. Coldebella, M. Corsi

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

An analysis of the relationship of leaf length (LL) and leaf width (LW) with leaf dry weight (LDW) in Panicum maximum was carried out with the objective of improving estimations of tissue flow in that plant. Data was collected in a mob grazing experiment with 28 days grazing interval sampled the day before grazing in 9 grazing cycles. Regression analysis revealed highly significant effect (P < 0.001) of both LL and LW on LDW. A lack of fit test gave strong evidence of non-linear relationship of LDW with LL (p < 0.05), fitting the model 1 0 LDW = β0LLβ1 , while LW presented a linear relation with LDW. LL was a better predictor of LDW than LW. LL solely or in combination with LW produced equations with …

Seasonal Patterns Of Growth And Senescence In Cynodon Spp. Cv Tifton 85 Grazed Swards, L. F. M. Pinto, L. G. Barioni, S. C. Da Silva Sep 2021

Seasonal Patterns Of Growth And Senescence In Cynodon Spp. Cv Tifton 85 Grazed Swards, L. F. M. Pinto, L. G. Barioni, S. C. Da Silva

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Growth and senescence are very important determinants of grassland productivity and correspond to key features to be considered for grazing management purposes. The present study was carried out at ESALQ, Piracicaba, S.P., Brazil and evaluated growth and senescence as a function of sward surface height. Mathematical models generated revealed that a similar pattern of response occurred as described in the literature for temperate grass species. However, a seasonal variation in response curves for growth and senescence was also observed and could be related to climatic events. Highest herbage accumulation rates were observed within the range of 15 to 20 cm …

Geostatistical Analysis Of Potential Sinkhole Risk: Examining Spatial And Temporal Climate Relationships In Tennessee And Florida, Kimberly Blazzard May 2018

Geostatistical Analysis Of Potential Sinkhole Risk: Examining Spatial And Temporal Climate Relationships In Tennessee And Florida, Kimberly Blazzard

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Sinkholes are a significant hazard for the southeastern United States. Although differences in climate are known to affect karst environments differently, quantitative analyses correlating sinkhole formation with climate variables is lacking. A temporal linear regression for Florida sinkholes and two modeled regressions for Tennessee sinkholes were produced: a general linearized logistic regression and a MaxEnt derived species distribution model. Temporal results showed highly significant correlations with precipitation, teleconnection patterns, temperature, and CO2, while spatial results showed highly significant correlations with precipitation, wind speed, solar radiation, and maximum temperature. Regression results indicated that some sinkhole formation variability could be …

Palynological And Petroleum Geochemical Assessment Of The Lower Oligocene Mezardere Formation, Thrace Basin, Nw Turkey, Kadi̇r Gürgey, Zühtü Bati Jan 2018

Palynological And Petroleum Geochemical Assessment Of The Lower Oligocene Mezardere Formation, Thrace Basin, Nw Turkey, Kadi̇r Gürgey, Zühtü Bati

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Oligocene clastic sequence of the Mezardere Formation (MF) with laterally variable organic richness has long been known as a proven source of gas with minor oil accumulations across the Thrace Basin of northwest Turkey. However, based on well data for the thick MF, neither detailed work in relation to age dating and stratigraphy nor a close linkage between the depositional facies/ environments, organic richness/organic proxies, and cyclicity has been established yet. In the present study, the MF was informally subdivided into Lower MF (LMF) and Upper MF (UMF) based on the distinct differences in palynological and geochemical data. Based …

The Role Of Structural Stormwater Best Management Practices, Impervious Surfaces And Natural Factors On Base Flow In Massachusetts, Kimberly B. Klosterman Jan 2012

The Role Of Structural Stormwater Best Management Practices, Impervious Surfaces And Natural Factors On Base Flow In Massachusetts, Kimberly B. Klosterman

Masters Theses 1911 - February 2014

This research conducted a GIS analysis of twenty-eight sub-watersheds in Massachusetts and considered five factors which the literature suggested influenced base flow. The literature suggested a positive relation between precipitation, forest cover and base flow and a negative relationship between impervious surfaces, soil drainage class, slope and base flow. A multiple regression analysis of the sub-watershed information confirmed the literature for two factors (soil drainage class and slope) and questioned it on three factors (impervious surfaces, precipitation, and forest cover). The resulting predictive equation indicated that imperviousness and precipitation were the most significant factors affecting base flow. The first derivative …

Evaluating Nonindustrial Private Landowners For Forestry Assistance Programs: A Logistic Regression Approach, United States Department Of Agriculture, Forest Service Jan 1983

Evaluating Nonindustrial Private Landowners For Forestry Assistance Programs: A Logistic Regression Approach, United States Department Of Agriculture, Forest Service

Forestry

As budgets in forest management agencies become more restrictive, cost-effective programs become more important. This paper describes a quantitative tool for setting priorities for the forestry assistance program administered by the Montana Division of Forestry. Logistic regression was used to better identify the type of forest owners to which assistance should be directed. (In logistic regression, the dependent variable is a probability that a certain event or activity will occur.) Data supporting model development were obtained from a questionnaire survey of forest landowners in the western portion of Montana. Four models were developed that pertain to past use of technical …
