Our study focuses on one of the autobiographical works of Chamoiseau Chemin d’école (1994). This particularly singular literary work breaks away from traditional autobiography: it is no more a question of telling the past in a narcissistic and nostalgic way, but it is about building a writing style open to dialogue. We shall show that the profound originality of this work lies mainly in a subversion of temporal process, in an enunciative duality and in an asserted exhibition of a poetic relationship with the world and languages. Using the second person point of view, the memoir beguiles readers to make the story theirs as well. The preface narrates reasons for composing a memoir, elaborating on how simple, everyday stories become important in creating cohesiveness among different stages of change and growth. My dissertation explores the narrative of Aurora Bertrana (1892-1974), an unknown writer today, but a successful and recognized female author in Catalonia and Spain during the mid 20^th century. The written work of Aurora Bertrana is almost never mentioned in manuals of literature. Relegated almost to absolute oblivion, her rich, intellectual writting has not received the attention it deserves. This thesis includes both scholarly and creative approaches to women’s life narrative and rhetoric. The author first analyzes Terry Tempest Williams’ recently published memoir, When Women Were Birds: Fifty-Four Variations on Voice, through the lenses of writing and rhetorical theory. She examines how Williams’ hybrid genre negotiates the boundaries between journaling and autobiographical writing and between silence and voice. She argues that Williams employs a feminist rhetoric in her writing in order to negotiate these boundaries.

The second and third works are personal essays in which the author examines her journals and her marriage. These creative works meditate on the …

This thesis comprises a memoir and essay on schizophrenia. It is estimated that 285,000 people suffer some form of schizophrenia in Australia. This means, on average, one in seventy people in Australia suffer from the disorder. For males, schizophrenia often develops in early adulthood. For females, it has later onset. There are about five types of schizophrenia: paranoid, catatonic, disorganised, undifferentiated, and residual. The focus of this thesis is on the diagnosis of Paranoid Schizophrenia. There is no cure, but it is treatable. However, people with a treatment resistant schizophrenia can find life difficult. The aim of the thesis is …
