Sunday Dinners Creative Introduction & Poem Analyses, Sophie Clark
Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects
In tandem with my Writer’s Workshop poetry thesis, in which I will work with Dr. Lisa Fay Coutley to produce an original chapbook of 25-30 poems, my Honors thesis will analyze my use of poetic devices and forms throughout my chapbook. To do so, I will write a 250-page analysis of each poem and its overall contribution to the book as a whole. In addition, I will also provide an introduction to my chapbook upon its completion, in which I will summarize my responses to detail an overview of my thematic and structural concepts.
Three Quarters, Michael Mckee Green
Three Quarters, Michael Mckee Green
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
Three Quarters makes retrospection into prospection. Following its speaker from the near-present to the near-past, the text imposes a spiritual and affective pilgrimage onto nine months (three quarters of a year) of his life. Codas, pieces of parataxis, and grammatical slippages color and heighten the experiences of a young man coming to terms with himself by reliving what’s come.
Amidst A Bottled Word: Poetry & Prose, Carlos J. Peralta
Amidst A Bottled Word: Poetry & Prose, Carlos J. Peralta
Honors Undergraduate Theses
"Amidst a Bottled Word: Poetry and Prose" includes a variety of different themes, styles, and genre—many reflecting a cynical or ironic tone. This eclectic thesis reflects the wide-ranging interest of its creator. The stories within this collection are a thriller and a work of speculative fiction, the former supernatural and the latter near future or science fiction. In one story, "The Man Behind the Curtain," Val, the older of two young sisters, must protect herself and her sister while enduring a weekend visit to her estranged Grandparents' house, while signs of a mysterious man keep emerging throughout their stay. The …

Frida's Daughter, Myrta Vida
Theses
The purpose of my creative writing is to highlight a group of U.S. citizens still woefully underrepresented in literature proper: the Latinx middle class. I’m keenly interested in exploring Puerto Rican and first- and second-generation Latinx immigrant stories. Even though some of the experiences from these groups have been elegantly visited by writers such as Giannina Braschi, Sandra Cisneros, Junot Diaz, Julia Alvarez, and others, there are nuances to the Latinx middle class experience that are yet to be uncovered. Being stuck in the cultural, linguistic, socio-economic, and political middles in a country that has recently taken a largely nationalist …
Lesbia A Voice From The Unheard, Jullisa Webb
Lesbia A Voice From The Unheard, Jullisa Webb
Honors Theses
This compositional thesis examines and utilizes the works of the infamous Latin poet Catullus in his advances to gain the amours of his mysterious love figure named Lesbia. In an attempt to try and deviate from normal social standards, this thesis gives a woman a voice, power, and supremacy against a man by rejecting his advances, not typical in the era of Catullus. Lesbia takes on the form of female embodiment of power, strength, and defiance. First I translated in a literal way the poems Catullus wrote to Lesbia. Then I transformed and altered Catullus’ poetry into letters with a …

Ordinary Explorations, Amelia M. Endo
Honors Theses
In her poem “Poetry” Marianne Moore gracefully states the physical reactions people experience as a result of reading poetry, such as eyes dilating and hair rising. Moore asserts, “these things are important not because a/ high‐sounding interpretation can be put upon them but because/ they are/ useful”. For this reason, I not only read but also create poetry. I wrote this collection of poems intending to trigger reactions from my readers that would be “useful” to them. I decided that the most tactful way to do so was to write about my own personal experiences. Inspired by notable poets such …
Static And Accent, Naomi Beth Tarle
Static And Accent, Naomi Beth Tarle
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
This thesis continues my ongoing interest with art and writing, and my concern with investigating both of them as a subject I find difficult and frightening. I manipulated, and integrated sources from various disciplines, until the major source text became accessible. Tension regarding inheriting personal and general history is a vital aspect of the work. My engagement with art and writing is in line with Max Ernst and Norma Cole. Their works exhibit the energy of collaboration between multiple mediums and forms.
The rewrites are a type of translation, interpretation; they are an alternate version of the original. The rewrites …
