If We Are Honest, Lisa L. Anthony Dec 2019

If We Are Honest, Lisa L. Anthony

MSU Graduate Theses

If We Are Honest is a collection of narrative poetry in which I explore the conflicts, struggles, growth, and transitions involved in many facets of life. Some poems deal with the relationship between a parent and a child. Others deal with the difficulties of marriage and divorce. The poems in this collection are a celebration of narrative poetry, and of her poetic voice. They are a mixture of free verse and prose poems, and above all—they collectively tell a story: her story.

During Mackenzie’s time at Otterbein she has loved blending her loves of fiction writing and poetry into one beautiful art form. This project is a culmination of just that. Mackenzie has chosen to focus on her life as a college student, in regards to her memories and her growth as an independent adult, feminist, woman, and writer with distortion of place and time to spice things up. In this project she attempts to answer the …
