The purpose of this report was to identify why rural women’s involvement in government decision-making is of a low level despite the concerted government action, and to furthermore provide solutions to inform action. The strength of the research presented is that all information is firmly established in the rural women’s experiences.

Background The Department of Agriculture's Centenary activities in 1994 had two main audiences in mind.

One was the genera] public, for which the Centenary year provided an excellent opportunity for publicity, for example, "Here we are- this is what we do for the continuing advancement and protection of agriculture in Western Australia" and (linked with the historical side of the Centenary) "Here are some of the significant steps and breakthroughs achieved by the Department over the years".
