The Impact Of Varieties Of Shame On Disordered Eating: Exploring The Influence Of Emotion Regulation And Self-Compassion, Tiffany Ann Hopkins

The current study examined the impact of specific forms of shame on severity of specific disordered eating behaviors, after controlling for depression and guilt, among women who engaged in restricting, binge-eating, purging/compensatory behaviors, or binge eating and purging in combination. Additionally, the study examined whether self-compassion and emotion regulation mediated the relation between various forms of shame and disordered eating severity. Finally, the study piloted an internet-based method of self-compassion induction.
