An analysis has been made of the methods used by a Petrochemical Engineer-Constructor, who has national labor agreements, in deciding if the construction phase of a project should be done by a subcontract method of construction or be accomplished on a direct hire basis. The petrochemical complex under discussion is considered to be in the $75 million range for the total installed cost including design, engineering, procurement, and construction.

Several physical methods are described for the practical measurement and rating of angularity (shape) of cohesionless soil particles. Angularity is determined by utilizing the fundamental property of a sphere: a sphere has the smallest contact surface area of any shape for a given volume. Therefore, any other shape will exhibit a greater contact surface area and consequently will have a greater frictional resistance which is a function of its degree of angularity.

A sewer system was designed for Camp Challenge of the Florida Easter Seal Society, in Mount Plymouth, Florida, of polyvinyl chloride piping. Invert elevations were tabulized and necessary fittings determined for the system. Cost estimates were also included. The sewers were designed on a per fixture basis so as not to overdesign using per capita flow rates. A literature and records search was conducted to obtain design and actual wastewater flow quantities in gallons per capita per day (gpcd). Actual flows determined from 4 camps and 11 travel trailer parks gave average values of 39 and 33 gpcd, respectively, and …

The objective of this thesis is to predict from a theoretical basis the stress redistribution processes occurring within the viscoelastic core of a cylindrical pressure vessel reinforced by an elastic casing around the outer perimeter, and subject to internal pressure applied to the time-dependent inner boundary of the cylinder. The problem so stated requires development of a new technique leading to a solution for a mixed boundary value problem for a viscoelastic body occupying an ablating cylindrical y-shaped region.
