The Solubility Of Inorganic Salts In Ether, Clarence Bernard Weiss Jan 1928

The Solubility Of Inorganic Salts In Ether, Clarence Bernard Weiss

Masters Theses

"The data on the solubility of inorganic salts in ether is scarce. Eder made a study of this subject and found few salts whose solubility could be called high. He used both hydrated and dehydrated salts. Neumann mentions the great solubility of aluminum chloride in ether, but did no work to find its exact proportions. It was thought that perhaps with this particular salt, a solubility curve might be obtained that would be both instructive and interesting. Therefore the major portion of this work was spent in determining the solubility of aluminum chloride in ether. Other salts whose solubilities were …

A Study Of Petroleum Emulsions, Howard Halcomb Gross Jan 1928

A Study Of Petroleum Emulsions, Howard Halcomb Gross

Masters Theses

"The producer of crude oil experiences a continuous source of trouble and loss in the emulsion problem. These emulsions cannot be entirely discarded for several reasons: First because it is a waste of natural resource and second because there are such large quantities that no feasible outlet could be found on account of fire hazard and stream polution [sic]. Further to keep these emulsions in storage for slow settling puts a storage burden on the producers. To handle the emulsions most economically many producers are treating them and a large number of methods for treating have been devised. The object …

Solubility Of Solid Paraffins In Lower Molecular Weight Hydrocarbons, Ruth Veino Goodhue Jan 1928

Solubility Of Solid Paraffins In Lower Molecular Weight Hydrocarbons, Ruth Veino Goodhue

Masters Theses

"The solubility of solid paraffins in the lower molecular weight liquid hydrocarbons offers a problem of some considerable commercial importance since it is by use of these low boiling hydrocarbons that the undesirable paraffin waxes are removed from lubricating oils in the Sharples process. Little data is to be found in the literature on the solubility of the paraffin waxes, and that which is available is of a very general nature...This work was undertaken for the purpose of finding if possible, what effect this "cracking" or "telescoping" process has on the solubility of the paraffins in the liquid hydrocarbons"--Introduction, page …

A Study Of The Determination Of Silica In The Presence Of Fluorine, William Harlan Ode Jan 1928

A Study Of The Determination Of Silica In The Presence Of Fluorine, William Harlan Ode

Masters Theses

"The determination of silica in the presence of fluorine has always been accomplished either by difficult and complex analytical procedures or by rapid arbitrary control methods of doubtful precision...Hence, this study was undertaken in order to determine whether a more simple method might be found for the determination of silica in the presence of fluorine"--Introduction, page 1-2.

The Solubility Of Inorganic Salts In Carbon Disulfide: The Case Of Aluminum Bromide, Herman Henry Kaveler Jan 1928

The Solubility Of Inorganic Salts In Carbon Disulfide: The Case Of Aluminum Bromide, Herman Henry Kaveler

Masters Theses

"Since about 1890, the interest in solubility has turned to a large extent to the investigation of the solubility of compounds in organic solvents. This has resulted in a great deal of work being done on the solubility of inorganic salts in non-aqueous solvents. As this mass of data steadily accumulated, the theoretical considerations of solubility and the ideal solution made rapid advances, as Hildebrand has pointed out. We express as much wonder over these theoretical advances as chemists did over the discover "that salts do dissolve in organic compounds". To add some useful data to that already accumulated on …
