This study investigates the role of exchange rate, market size and human capital for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). In this regard, time series data on annual basis has been collected for the period 1985–2010 and an Augmented Dickey–Fuller (ADF) and Phillips–Perron (PP) unit root tests are utilized to determine the stationarity of the variables. An autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to co-integration was applied as all the variables in the model are first level stationary, e.g. I(1). The purpose of this paper is to examine conflict management in exchanges in small firm networks which are embedded in the dense socio-economic exchanges that typify industrial districts. Informal conflict management strategies used by managers in vertical and horizontal, symmetrical and asymmetrical relationships are identified and analysed. The methodology chosen is that of in-depth semi-structured interviews with 22 small company owner/managers in an industrial district in the south-east of France. Hollywood has immortalised his character in film. Today, the name Capone remains synonymous with the word gangster. Although Capone owned businesses of a legitimate nature, illicit ventures and the spectre of the gangster-entrepreneur define his practice of entrepreneurship. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of type of governance on financial policy and financial performance of micro-family-owned businesses in Canada. This study utilised survey research (a non-experimental field study design). Micro-family-business owners from Western Canada were asked about their beliefs, perceptions and feelings regarding type of governance, financial policy and financial performance. The findings of this study indicate that type of governance positively impacts financial policy.
