Educators As Leaders: Perspectives On Teaching And The Ethics Associated With Culinary Sustainability, Deborah N. Smith

In this qualitative pilot study, the author conducts research on chef educators and their background and interest in, preparation for, and comfort level with teaching college students about culinary sustainability. Five chef educators teaching in a culinary/hospitality program were interviewed about their personal and professional experiences with culinary sustainability. Two broad themes emerged from the data. First, initial exposure of participants to culinary sustainability was impactful and led to subsequent internalized, habitual practices. Two sub-themes under this first finding were related to the influence of early family and early career experiences. Second, continued learning about sustainable culinary practices is primarily …

This is a review of Jessalynn Strauss' recent book, Challenging Corporate Social Responsibility: Lessons for Public Relations from the Casino Industry. Through an analysis of Casino’s CSR practices, Strauss raises some serious concerns about this alignment between CSR and PR, and provides reasons to doubt whether SCR done for strategic bottom line interests rather than purely ethical reasons will consistently accomplish what the casinos set out to achieve.

In continuation of our previous work, “The Impact of Ethical Concerns on Fashion Consumerism: A Review,” we present here empirically based reports to support our argument that ethical concerns in the fashion industry affect consumer behavior. In line with Paper I, the initial paper of this series, we address the concept of ethical marketing, with a focus on the two dimensions of sustainable environmental practices and societally appropriate messaging. Violence has become common place in business strategy, taking on many forms. Some use violence in rhetoric as they compete with other companies while others use sell violence as entertainment. IMC has emerged as a contemporary genre of epideictic rhetoric with ethical obligations to our postmodern polis. Doing Well And Good: An Exploration Of The Role Of Mindfulness In The Entrepreneurial Opportunity Recognition And Evaluation Process, Louise Kelly, Marina Dorian

The purpose of this conceptual paper is to integrate two previously disparate areas of research: mindfulness and the entrepreneurial process. This present study conceptualizes the impact of mindfulness on the choices entrepreneurs face. Specifically, the research theorizes the positive effects of mindfulness on the opportunity recognition process, including evaluation of entrepreneurs. Furthermore, we propose that metacognition mediates this relationship, and emotional self-regulation moderates it. This conceptual research also suggests that mindfulness is positively related to the ethical decision-making and opportunity recognition and evaluation. Leaders focus on the attainment of personal and organizational goals without consideration for the needs of stakeholders, especially those of followers. Ethical leadership (EL) studies' focus on leaders' perspectives represented a research gap that necessitated this study. Followers are the least researched among stakeholders; thus, this study explored EL from their viewpoints. Stakeholder theory, social learning theory, eudaimonia, and utilitarianism were the conceptual frameworks that guided this study. Unethical behavior includes all decisions and actions counterproductive to an organization's mission and can cause irrevocable damage to the organization's professional reputation. The Securities and Exchange Commission reported 807 ethical violations in 2015. This study was underpinned by the ethical leadership theory, which emphasizes leadership decision making based on fair and just practices, for all involved parties. Top law firms are notoriously competitive, fighting for prime clients and matters. But some of the most elite firms are also deeply cooperative, willingly sharing key details about their finances and strategy with their rivals. More surprisingly, they pay handsomely to do so. Nearly half of the AmLaw 100 and 200 belong to mutual insurance organizations that require member firms to provide capital; partner time; and important information about their governance, balance sheets, risk management, strategic plans, and malpractice liability. This study focuses upon US fast-food drive-thru delivery, assesses its cycle times, identifies its common delays and inefficiencies, and proposes solutions for improvement. The author, having become a live-alone bachelor since 2012 admittedly has routinely been a regular fast-food consumer, and as a researcher has over the past 4 years convenience-tallied this field study of fast-food drive-thru delivery. The average drive-thru wait time for these fast-food establishments was .81 minutes with average processing times of 3.6 minutes for a total average of 4.45 minutes with an average standard deviation of 2.1 minutes. The aim of this paper is to contribute to the body of knowledge that exists in the area of ethical production by examining factors that influence purchase intention of ethically produced fashion products. The findings of this study provide a further understanding of ethical production by providing answers to the objectives. These results will also provide insight to firms wanting to effectively convey pro-environmental efforts to consumers. The findings may also assist marketers in understanding the consumers’ attitudes toward ethical manufacturing practices and their motivations for wearing their ethics and purchasing ethically produced fashion products.
