Using Prospect Theory To Investigate Decision-Making Bias Within An Information Security Context, Neil J. Schroeder
Using Prospect Theory To Investigate Decision-Making Bias Within An Information Security Context, Neil J. Schroeder
Theses and Dissertations
Information security is an issue that has increased in importance over the past decade. In this time both practitioner and academic circles have researched and developed practices and process to more effectively handle information security. Even with growth in these areas there has been little research conducted into how decision makers actually behave. This is problematic because decision makers in the Department of Defense have been observed exhibiting risk seeking behavior when making information security decisions that seemingly violate accepted norms. There are presently no models in the literature that provide sufficient insight into this phenomenon. This study used Prospect …

The Centrality Of Awareness In The Formation Of User Behavioral Intention Toward Preventive Technologies In The Context Of Voluntary Use, Tamara Dinev, Qing Hu
Qing Hu
Little is known about user behavior toward what we call preventive computer technologies that have become increasingly important in the networked economy and society to secure data and systems from viruses, unauthorized access, disruptions, spyware, and similar harmful technologies. We present the results of a study of user behavior toward preventive technologies based on the frameworks of theory of planned behavior in the context of anti-spyware technologies. We find that the user awareness of the issues and threats from harmful technologies is a strong predictor of user behavioral intention toward the use of preventive technologies. In the presence of awareness, …

E- International Hospital Website Strategy Comparisons, Jana R. Minifie, Judy Dietert, Bill Middlebrook
Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
This manuscript evaluates 20 American and 20 non-American hospital websites using a Hospital E-Marketing Strategy Life-Cycle model. These hospital websites were initially evaluated and categorized using the model in 1999. These same hospital websites were revisited in 2004 to determine if their initial stage had changed over the years and if hospital websites did indeed follow the Life-Cycle model. Any changes in a hospital’s website marketing strategy between years are also evaluated.

The improvement in living standards and the development of telecommunications have led to a large increase in the number of Internet users in China. It has been reported by China National Network Information Center that the number of Internet users in China has reached 33.7 million in 2001, ranting the country third in the world. Non-Response Error Within Internet Surveys: A Cautionary Note, Carl S. Bozman, Donald E. Stem Jr
Non-Response Error Within Internet Surveys: A Cautionary Note, Carl S. Bozman, Donald E. Stem Jr
Journal of International Information Management
The use of the internet as a method to conduct survey research has expanded rapidly over the past decade. High speeds of response and lower expenses have driven this rapid growth. Relatively low response rates, however, suggest online surveys may be compromised by high levels of non-sampling error. This paper examines a major component of non-sampling error and the consequences that may be associated with internet survey non-response. Known population parameters are compared to point estimates from a census as well as a random sample of non-respondents in order to provide insight on the magnitude and direction of nonresponse error. …

Virtual Worlds In Asia: Business Models And Legal Issues. Paper Presented At Digra, Ian Macinnes
School of Information Studies - Faculty Scholarship
This paper uses two Asian case studies to illustrate the issues that developers of virtual worlds should address as they mature. The Korean case emphasizes the phenomenon of item trading. This involves emergent markets linking real world currency to items existing on company servers. The practice has resulted in controversial and unresolved legal issues. Companies such as ItemBay have grown to take advantage of these opportunities. The Chinese case emphasizes the transformation of business models over time as well as community control. The paper discusses feedback effects between broadband adoption and online games as well as issues such as Waigua, …

A Campus Portal Development Methodology To Match Stakeholder Activity, Tharitpong Fuangvut, Helen M. Hasan
Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)
Although introduced less than seven years ago, a Campus Portal (CP) can be considered as an emerging technological innovation within higher education institutions. A large number have already adopted the concept and are currently implementing some type of portal to extend the services of their Web site and information systems to support the activities of institutional stakeholders, especially students. There is some literature recommending sets of characteristics and functionality for successful CPs, in particular personalisation and customisation. However there is a lack of evidence on which aspects of core attributes lead to the failure of a portal to satisfy user …
