Female Entrepreneur Underperformance: A Puzzle For The Information Age, Sherry Robinson, John Watson Jan 2001

Female Entrepreneur Underperformance: A Puzzle For The Information Age, Sherry Robinson, John Watson

Journal of International Information Management

Women entrepreneurs are a significant and fast-growing force in small business, yet many studies have concluded that their businesses underperfomi men's in terms of sales and size. As both women entrepreneurs and e-commerce become increasingly important parts of the Information Age economy, it is essential to determine if there are differences in success between women- and men-owned businesses, and how those differences, if any, relate to e-commerce. This paper examines the apparent underperformance of women-owned businesses and proposes a number of hypotheses for future research.

Taking Payments Online: A Framework For Selection, Binshan Lin, Charlotte Jones Jan 2001

Taking Payments Online: A Framework For Selection, Binshan Lin, Charlotte Jones

Journal of International Information Management

Electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) is usually viewed as a "killer application" in e-commerce, which will fundamentally change the way customers receive and pay their bills. While many models exist, there is a dearth of information for determining which model would best fit customer characteristics and needs. This paper examines primary models, customer requirements, bill characteristics, and customer types to develop an exploratory framework for determviing which EBPP model a bill-generating firm should employ.

User Perceptions Of The Benefits Of Implementing An Erp System: A Case Study, Jaideep Motwani, Dinesh Mirchandani, Victor E. Sower

Journal of International Information Management

Given the large time and fitiancial commitment that an ERP project requires and the potential benefits it can offer if successfidly implemented, it is important to understand the factors that facilitate and inhibit the success ofEP,P implementation. By means of a case study of a global energy company, we first examine the factors that facilitate and inhibit the success of their ERP implementation. We draw on the theory of business process change when analyzing the implementation process. Next, we examine the perceptions non-management professional users of the ERP system (who were not members of the ERP implementation team) have of …

E-Business: Revolution, Evolution, Or Hype?, T. Coltman, T. M. Devinney, A. Latukefu, D. F. Midgley

Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)

As the Internet continues to grow in size and capability, many firms are implementing Web-based applications and Internet-derived economic change continues to occur. If this change is revolutionary, now or in the near future, then many managers will be required to rethink their firm strategies and managerial responses in a profound way. On the other hand, if the change is simply evolutionary, it will apply more to some firms than to others, and pre-Internet strategies and managerial responses will still be appropriate in many circumstances. While it is premature to categorize e-business as revolutionary, e-business is not a silver bullet, …

Privacy And Consumer Agency In The Information Age: Between Prying Profilers And Preening Webcams, Nikhilesh Dholakia, Detlev Zwick Jan 2001

Privacy And Consumer Agency In The Information Age: Between Prying Profilers And Preening Webcams, Nikhilesh Dholakia, Detlev Zwick

College of Business Faculty Publications

This article is about the ability of the consumer to control his or her destiny in the new electronic marketspace. Two seemingly opposite phenomena – the need for privacy and the desire for exhibitionism and voyeurism – are vying for attention on the media landscape. We believe the simultaneous occurrence of privacy concerns and ultraexhibitionism is not coincidental. Indeed, exhibitionism and voyeurism seem to offer new tools for consumer resistance against the electronic surveillance systems in networked markets and are inextricably linked to consumers’ desire for control over their intimate personal information.

Understanding The Digital Divide As It Relates To Electronic Commerce, Franklin D. Gaillard Jan 2001

Understanding The Digital Divide As It Relates To Electronic Commerce, Franklin D. Gaillard

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

There exists an electronic digital divide within the United States. This digital divide concerns access to the Internet and its corresponding technologies. The U.S. government is concerned about the digital divide because it appears that certain ethnic groups and income levels are being excluded from computer technologies and the Internet. These groups include African Americans and Hispanics, who are lagging the Caucasians significantly in gaining access to the Internet. For a while the gap between majority and minority groups appeared to be widening. Since Internet access is a prerequisite to electronic commerce, an understanding of the relationship between the digital …

To What Extent Can Knowledge Management Systems Build And Reinforce Consensus Around Initiatives For Change?: A Self-Reflective Analysis Of Professional Practice, Guy A. Duczynski Jan 2001

To What Extent Can Knowledge Management Systems Build And Reinforce Consensus Around Initiatives For Change?: A Self-Reflective Analysis Of Professional Practice, Guy A. Duczynski

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

This thesis reports on my attempts to 're-align' the purpose, behaviour and underlying culture of a large military organisation through heuristic, self reflective enquiry - to 'find its future' - with and through its people. I use the word re-align with great care as I recognised that change would have been too ambitious and would (probably have) result(ed) in failure. Whilst I cannot claim total success, I have made new and valuable discoveries in knowledge elicitation and methods of integrating the views of a large number of people to 'build and reinforce consensus around initiatives for change'. In the process …
