Supporting Text And Data Analysis Across Campus From The Academic Library, Amy Kirchhoff, Hejin Shin Phd
Digital Initiatives Symposium
The ability to comprehend and communicate with text-based data is essential to future success in academics and employment, as evidenced in a recent survey from Bloomberg Research Services which shows that nearly 97% of survey respondents now use data analytics in their companies and 58% consider data and text mining a business analytics tool (https://www.sas.com/content/dam/SAS/bp_de/doc/studie/ba-st-the-current-state-of-business-analytics-2317022.pdf). This has fueled a substantial growth in text analysis research (involving the use of technology to analyze un- and semi-structured text data for valuable insights, trends, and patterns) across disciplines and a corresponding demand on academic libraries to support text analysis pedagogy and text analysis …

The Effect Of Digital Marketing Implementation Through Location-Based Advertising On Customer's Purchase Intention: A Case Of Fmcg Products In Karachi, Maira Junejo, Iqra Anwar Shah
3rd IBA SBS International Conference 2024
The intended research will target the problem of lack of LBA application and ineffective utilization of LBA in mobile advertising in digital marketing. Not much focus has been given to this area of marketing in the existing literature as well as practice in the context of the FMCG sector in Karachi, Pakistan. Wibisurya (2018) alluded that LBA has the potential to positively influence a consumer’s behavior towards a type of advertisement being carried out. However, FMCG marketers show a significant lack of interest in the domain. Moreover, LBA performed through SMS advertising increases two-way communication between consumers and FMCG brands, …
A Discussion On Supplier Selection Modeling Approaches, Sheida Etemadidavan, Andrew J. Collins
A Discussion On Supplier Selection Modeling Approaches, Sheida Etemadidavan, Andrew J. Collins
Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Student Capstone Conference
Supplier selection is a subfield of supply chain management that involves multiple steps in order for decision-makers to find suitable suppliers. Supplier selection is important as it could influence the whole company positively or negatively. It has, recently, become a topic of interest because of the recent pandemic and its effect on the global supply chain, which causes supply shortages. As such, the focus of this paper is on characteristics of decision-making modeling approaches, specifically agent-based modeling and multi-agent systems, in supplier selection, as its modeling has always been a challenge for companies due to its complex nature.

An Exploratory Study Of Emotional Intelligence Characteristics Between Disciplines In Higher Education And Suggested Curriculum Adjustments, Brad Thomas
Scholar Week 2016 - present
Emotional Intelligence (EI) may be more important to the success of college students than cognitive intelligence and technical skills combined. Recent research has primarily focused on EI in the workplace. However, implications for improving EI skills of college undergraduate students before they enter the workforce appears to be lacking. This quantitative research examined the Emotional Intelligence levels of five different majors to identify differences based on area of study, gender, or other demographic factors. Subsequently, the study aimed to provide suggestions for curriculum development with a goal to better expose students to EI themes. An online survey was offered to …

Developing An Ai-Powered Chatbot To Support The Administration Of Middle And High School Cybersecurity Camps, Jonathan He, Chunsheng Xin
Developing An Ai-Powered Chatbot To Support The Administration Of Middle And High School Cybersecurity Camps, Jonathan He, Chunsheng Xin
KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Throughout the Internet, many chatbots have been deployed by various organizations to answer questions asked by customers. In recent years, we have been running cybersecurity summer camps for youth. Due to COVID-19, our in-person camp has been changed to virtual camps. As a result, we decided to develop a chatbot to reduce the number of emails, phone calls, as well as the human burden for answering the same or similar questions again and again based on questions we received from previous camps. This paper introduces our practical experience to implement an AI-powered chatbot for middle and high school cybersecurity camps …

The Impact Of Terrorism On Consumer Sentiment: Evidence From Twitter Data, Kyla Scanlon
The Impact Of Terrorism On Consumer Sentiment: Evidence From Twitter Data, Kyla Scanlon
Posters-at-the-Capitol
This paper investigates the effects that 12 different terrorist attacks had on consumer sentiment, using data scraped from Twitter to determine a broad based emotional stance. This was inspired by my previous research that worked to determine the impact that terrorism had on the stock market. The goal of this research is to determine a more qualitative impact of terrorist attacks. I utilized Rapid Miner for data processing, and the Global Terrorism Database as my data source. The project began by examining the rise and fall of keywords and hashtags through sentiment analysis to measure reaction over time. The text …
Pipeline Or Waterslide: Advancing Women Into Executive Positions In Business And Financial Planning, Shannon Maura Domski
Pipeline Or Waterslide: Advancing Women Into Executive Positions In Business And Financial Planning, Shannon Maura Domski
Celebration of Learning
We seek to understand the continued lack of females in upper management or “C-Suite” positions in business and more specifically looking at the continued lack of female planners in the financial planning industry. We hypothesis that although great strides are being made to foster inclusion these changes are stalled not only by unconscious prejudices against women, but also by a lack of confidence by women themselves. By conducting interviews with over a dozen women in a variety of executive and planning positions we attempted to bring a consensus of some of the root causes of this imbalance as well as …

ICOT 18 - International Conference on Thinking - Cultivating Mindsets for Global Citizens
Being motivated by the need to address the challenges of our Volatile Uncertain Complex Ambiguous world, we strive to create tools to improve people’s lives and help them become more resilient, resourceful, self-confidant, and successful.
In a digital world, we must understand how to efficiently connect to digital systems. Connecting “with AI” doesn’t mean spending more time on digital devices, but spending time in a deliberate way with purpose and intentional learning outcomes.
As a society, we want to see graduates with emotional intelligence and reflective skills in order to address global economic and social issues. As for jobs …

Detecting Deception In Asynchronous Text, Fletcher Glancy
Detecting Deception In Asynchronous Text, Fletcher Glancy
Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
Glancy and Yadav (2010) developed a computational fraud detection model (CFDM) that successfully detected financial reporting fraud in the text of the management’s discussion and analysis (MDA) portion of annual filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This work extends the use of the CFDM to additional genres, demonstrates the generalizability of the CFDM and the use of text mining for quantitatively detecting deception in asynchronous text. It also demonstrates that writers committing fraud use words differently from truth tellers.
“Expanding That Story:” How Nonprofit Leaders Portray The Population They Serve, Sarah N. Koth
“Expanding That Story:” How Nonprofit Leaders Portray The Population They Serve, Sarah N. Koth
SCOM Undergraduate Research Conference
This research aims to understand how nonprofits leaders portray the populations they serve, specifically populations in low-economic status who receive material resources. Previous literature exploring the nonprofit sector considers volunteers and their experiences, although leaders set the tone for the organization’s language, and ultimately the quality of service. Five nonprofit organization (NPO) leaders from different organizations participated in semi-structured, in-depth interviews that lasted between 33 to 72 minutes. Questions inquired about their average week on the job, their contact with clients and volunteers, and how they want the public to view the population they serve. Accounts showed that nonprofit leaders …
Cover Text Steganography: N-Gram And Entropy-Based Approach, Sara M. Rico-Larmer
Cover Text Steganography: N-Gram And Entropy-Based Approach, Sara M. Rico-Larmer
KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Steganography is an ancient technique for hiding a secret message within ordinary looking messages or objects (e.g., images), also known as cover messages. Among various techniques, hiding text data in plain text file is a challenging task due to lack of redundant information. This paper proposes two new approaches to embed a secret message in a cover text document. The two approaches are n-gram and entropy metric-based generation of stego text. We provide examples of encoding secret messages in a cover text document followed by an initial evaluation of how well stego texts look close to the plain …

Taking The Plunge: Online Data Collection Using Mturk, L. Jean Harrison-Walker
Taking The Plunge: Online Data Collection Using Mturk, L. Jean Harrison-Walker
Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings
Mechanical Turk, an online crowdsourcing service created in 2005 by Amazon.com, is gaining in popularity among academics as a source of subjects for survey research. The initial attraction is based on access to a very large pool of participants who can be accessed online producing rapid response at low cost with minimal effort on the part of the researcher. For the uninitiated, however, the task of designing and running a research project on MTurk is rather daunting.
This paper begins with an introduction to MTurk. We review the language of MTurk and explain how a researcher goes about setting up …

Parallel Sessions (Consumer Behavior): The Pakistani Consumer: Dumb Or Dumber?, Owais Hassan Shaikh
International Conference on Marketing
The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has adopted the notion of ordinary consumer for assessing confusion or deception in ‘deceptive marketing practices’ cases under Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010i . In its first order in this area, the CCP defined ordinary consumer as a person who is ‘the usual, common or foreseeable user or buyer of the product’ (CCPa, p. 30) and differs from the ‘ordinary prudent man’ under contract law. According to the CCP, this conceptualisation of the Pakistani consumer was important for achieving the goal of implementing the Competition Act 2010 in its letter and spirit, …

Communicating Strategically – Talking Less, Targeting Better. Qualitative Study On Corporate Communication‘S Learning In Leading Global Companies, Lukasz M. Bocheneki, Sam Blili
UBT International Conference
Companies need to communicate strategically in order to maintain dialogue and relationships with their stakeholders. In the crowded media and social media space the messages disappear in the noise generated by multiple actors. Therefore, to be heard the enterprises need to consider their communication strategically. It is not about the amount of information, it is about right targeting and usage of the right tools and channels. Social media allowed the companies to communicate directly with their stakeholders and customers. Different channels can address different stakeholders. This study focuses on a qualitative assessment of the learning patterns and profiles among 60 …
